About Star - Adopted!

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
(a message from Star's new Mom Michelle) Hi aunt Marleen and all my wonderful aunts and uncle who saved me from a bad place and took wonderful care of me until I was able to get a new mom. I thought I would let you all know how my first day was. First we had a long trip home but I was such a good girl for my mom Michele. When we got home she thought I needed a good long walk to stretch my legs after such a long ride. We walk all around my new 5 acre yard. We had fun running and playing and when I got tired she took me to see my new brothers and sisters (ducks) down at my new pond. We all seem to be getting along fine so far.

When she was showing me my new pond a frog croaked and it scared me little so I gave him BARK. Then I thought the pond look so inviting I need to go in for a swim, the frog thought it was a good idea so he came in to, it startled me at first but he was not taking away my fun. After my mom thought I need a bath and I was a very good girl for her, now I am soft and my tail is so fluffy since I got a good brushing, boy did that feel sooooo good.

Then we came in and I took a good nap on the cool tile floor while my new mom made dinner for my new daddy. He is very nice man. I ran to him and gave him big kisses when he woke up and I got a good belly rub. We did not get to much time to play today he had to go to work but he promised when he comes home tomorrow we will play all day. Mom went to watch some TV, before I got on the couch I asked nicely and she let up with her, the couch is a perfect fit. Just before it got dark my mommy took me for another walk while we were out she tried to introduce me to the local deer but I didn't know they were there. After my new duckie family came home for the night and we put them in there cage. When we came inside for the night, I found a nice bed to lay on and it is just my size for a good nights sleep.

My mom tells me when she gets some pictures of me playing in my new pond with my new friends she will send them to you. Once again I want to thank all of my wonderful aunts and uncle who took great time and care of me and for my aunt Marleen who gave me a place to stay and took me to the vet to make sure I was healthy until she could find me a new home. For all my other foster friends back home I hope you get a great place like this one. My mom and I get along so well it seems like I've be here since I was a pup. This was a great match. I will miss all of you. Don't be to sad without me I am in a great new place you did a great job for me. I will write soon with some pictures and more adventures. love your pal star

Marleen and every one who took care of star, I want to thank you. She is a wonderful dog and we fit so well together. She is so well behaved and listens very good, the transition to our home has been sooooo easy I cant believe how well it has been. So far we have gotten along so great I seems like she been for years. I never thought bringing home a new pal would go so effortless. I want thank everyone for bringing a new dog into my life that brings me great happiness and joy.I know it is just the first day but it feels like she been here for a life time I love her very much thanks again Michele

UPDATE: We are thrilled to announce that our big, beautiful girl has been adopted! We had hoped that we could find a family as wonderful as Lennox our big Newfie boy and I'd say MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Besides having a loving Mom & Dad she also will have 5 acres to live on and best of all, especially for a Newfie girl, her very own POND to swim in every day. Bet those extra 20 pounds will come off after she starts doing laps around the pond. She'll even have ducks in her pond. We're not sure if that's going to work out for the ducks, but we certainly hope so!

STAR is also going to be an only child. Her parents feel that she should have their full and undivided attention. Hope my own dogs don't hear about that!

So, another GOOD day in rescue thanks to PETFINDER.COM

UPDATE from STAR'S foster Mom: We love all our "shelter kids" but I must admit we have one "STAR!" I'm having the privilege & pleasure of spending my days with this gentle giant. She is SO HAPPY to be out of the shelter she just seems to be smiling all the time.

She is just a wonderful, EXTREMELY friendly 5 year old girl who is looking for a family of her very own. She is a big (108 pounds - 20 of that is FAT) sweet beauty who quickly rolls onto her back for a belly-rub as soon as she meets you (she has clearly never heard that a "lady" should play hard-to-get a bit at first). We are hoping she'll be adopted by someone who loves to walk so they can walk off those 20 extra pounds she is carrying around. She is also completely housebroken. She would chew her paw off before she would go to the bathroom in the house.

STAR is meeting all the dogs & cats here so we can evaluate her personality. What I know so far is that she loves puppies and is very patient. She does not show any aggressive behavior toward any of the dogs --- unless they are aggressive toward her.

She is definitely an "alpha female" and that just means that she can easily live with other dogs, but they must be submissive by nature. It's totally normal wolf-pack behavior.

We've had two of the boys growl at her and she really growled back! I firmly told her NO! and she settled. You need to be very, very firm with her and she accepts that because she is a "people pleaser" kind of dog.

Next we're testing her with cats in real life. We tested her when she was being boarded with their cat but I'm checking now to see if she has high prey instincts. We have a cat we use for this purpose. We have a 20 pound cat that puts all the dogs in their place. We will be testing that tomorrow. Wish STAR and Gracie the cat luck! Stay tuned for more STAR stories.

She is an affectionate, gentle giant who delights in snuggles and kisses from everyone, including children. As a bonus, she also understands and heeds her basic commands (like "sit" and "down"), and is clearly a smart little cookie who wants to do nothing more then please you.

She was brought into the SPCA because she did not get along with her first family's new dog, but we have seen her in action, and while she is definitely an "alpha female" she does not appear to show any unwarranted aggression toward other dogs in general.

STAR would probably be best suited to being in a home where she would be the "boss" of any other dogs in the household (and she really doesn't feel that she's asking for too much here). She also does not seem particularly interested in cats. This girl truly belongs in a loving, forever-home where she can be cherished for the beautiful, wonderful dog that she is. If you think that your heart is big enough to let our STAR in, please contact us at the e-mail address on your right.

STAR has been SAVED from the SPCA thanks to the the HUGE emotional and financial EFFORTS of the following people: Charlotte Neuberger, Kitty Makowski, Anita Manning, Donna Allaband and John Fedele. Now, Lost and Found has the opportunity to find this big beauty the home that she deserves...YEAH TEAM !!!!!
