About Katie - Adopted!

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
UPDATE: Our sweet and pretty Katie went home today with her new family. She has left DE to live in North Jersey. She now has a new Mom & Dad and a big brother Oliver. She was much happier to see him then he was to see her ... but we're sure she'll win him over with her adorable ways.

She was only with us a short time but in that time she charmed everyone with her profound cuteness. She also found what turned out to be her favorite squeaky toy Froggie. Froggie happened to be a favorite of my own dog Yushi's. With all the toys she had to chose from ... she kept going back to the Froggie. She even put it under her chin for safe keeping. Of course we asked Yushi if the "little rescue kid" could have it forever and he's a good boy and "Sure!"

More info on Katie. She is such a happy, playful, joyous baby girl and she is really enjoying being out of the shelter. Whenever she is outside she comes running at me to greet me with her whole body wagging her tail.

The problem is she is so young that she hasn't caught on to using her brakes yet. She has run into me several times today. We'll be working on that part of her training ... but in my opinion, she should not live in a home with small children.

Not that she not sweet, she is, she just could accidently run them over. She has to learn her manners but we can't allow her to run little ones over while she get's the hang of stopping BEFORE she actually get's in front of you. She is only a baby herself and will be fine with proper training.

Update: This morning Katie was so happy to discover available food and a stuffed toy at the same time she kept eating and then playing squeaky ... then eat a bit more and play squeaky. Very, very heartwarming to see her so happy. She just walked over to get another toy to play with but she just has her paw on it, sort of just touching it, must be her first toys!

I crated Katie last night as we always do with new foster kids and she settled right in and like the ride home ... not a peep. She was very happy to see me this morning and is sure that she is going to enjoy her freedom from the shelter.

Well, could Katie be any prettier? No! Could she be any more loving and full of kisses, No! What a lovely spirit this baby girl has. She drove home from the SPCA today for two hours and didn't make a peep. That is not always the case when we pull the dogs from the shelter. She is a just go with the flow kind of girl. She's resting now and will need a few days to get caught up with her sleep. With all the noise and barking at the shelter, they really never do get to rest properly.

We took her to the vet right away and happy to report that she is heartworm negative, started on Heartguard & Frontline Plus, up to date with all her shots, and will be spayed on Wednesday. She is very young and has already had a litter. We'll give more reports as we get to know her better. I already know she is going to make someone very, very happy. She is extremely affectionate with everyone she meets.

We've had numerous requests for her already. but the only way to actually meet her or any of our "shelter kids" is is to have an approved application. If interested, request an application by e-mail and we'll send it right over. We do check vet and personal references immediately. Then we decide who is the best match for the dog and the family. We work to make sure the "shelter kids" find the family who will love them to their last breath.

This is what the shelter said about her: The Yellow Lab in 111 has been moved to 108. She is an absolute lovebug! She was found as a stray on 6/26 and no one has come for her. The fools don't know what they are missing. She is thought to be about a year old. She is a pretty girl in need of a loving home. Doesn't your house need a sweet yellow lab to make it a home? Pen 108 is outside where the public doesn't generally go. So you will need to ask the staff to help you find her. Don't wait. Even sweet dogs aren't held for long.
