About Rex - Adopted!

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Current Age: 21 Years 4 Months (best estimate)
Our sweet boy has been adopted by a wonderful family that is going to spoil him rotten! This family of dog lover's could easily see what a special dog this guy is and they are looking forward to making him a part of their lives. We could not be happier for Rex! Thank you so much to those of you who expressed interest in meeting him and please keep looking for your own "perfect match".

Update from Rex's foster mom: I just cannot believe how well behaved this gentleman is! He stops in his tracks when I call his name, no matter how much he is enjoying what he is doing. He actually seems to be able to infer what I need him to do by my actions, without my having to tell him. For example, when I put him to bed tonight (in his crate), I didn't realize that I had forgotten to put his blanket back in until I had already closed him in. Now Rex was busy enjoying a little before-sleep snack in his crate already, so I was not expecting him to want to be disturbed, plus I was worried that once he came out of the crate, he would not be interested in going back in--as the crate is not his favorite place to be (not that he would ever say a word about it). But, after retreiving the blanket, I opened the cage door and Rex stepped out, without my telling him to, only to immediately walk back in once the blanket was down. Mind you, this dog does not know me or have any sort of nighttime routine here nor did I have to say a word to him in order to have his cooperation. This may seem like a pretty small thing to be excited about, but, believe me, it is an amazing indication of this wonderful dog's temperment that he so easily is able to anticipate my needs and act accordingly. I think I may be in love. Rex is really going to make some family very happy! He is sheer perfection with my 5 year old son and gets along amazingly well with my 2 dogs. I just cannot think of a thing that anyone could want from a dog that Rex cannot provide. He is just the right sort of affectionate, more than happy to give kisses, but does not demand unending attention. He enjoys romping with the other dogs, but is equally happy to laze around, snoozing. I am just in awe that this dog, after all that he has been through, he is so perfect! Don't pass this guy up, he is the total package.

This beautiful boy is now safe with his foster family! He is rather petite, at just 46 pounds and just as cute as a bug's ear, with the most loving expressions! We can already tell you that Rex is a sweet and docile dog. The first thing that I did when he arrived was to give him a bath-(they all need one when they come out of the SPCA)and he was a gem! He got right into the tub and just stood completely still while I cleaned him up. What an amazing boy! While this poor dog is so loving and well-behaved, it is obvious that he has had a difficult time as of late. He clearly has spent entirely too much time outside, as he has the fly bites on his ears to prove it. We will make it our endeavor, though, to make up for what he has suffered by giving him loads of love and attention. Please keep checking back with us for updates on our wonderful Rex.

SPCA Notes: Rex is a 1 1/2 - 2 year old yellow Lab mix whose owners brought him to the SPCA on 8/3 when they could no longer keep him. He is neutered, house trained, and good with kids. What a gem! It must have hurt to have to give him up. He is such a sweetie, he will melt your heart. This boy is a lovable, friendly fellow who will bring joy into someone's life.
