1-27-06 Ben is now completely housebroken. Ben follows me everywhere. He loves to have human companionship and especially loves snuggling with people. His new family must appreciate a dog who gives kisses because he loves to share his love with everyone. I took him on a long walk yesterday and he quickly learned to heel. Ben is extremely intelligent and learns new commands very quickly.
His personality is very similar to the others in the litter. He loves other dogs and kids and everywhere he goes people comment on how handsome he is. He is one of those constantly happy dogs who is playful but not overly active. He does well in the crate and goes right in at night without a whimper. He also does well with nail clippings and baths. He does not act like a doberman at all but seems to have his mother's pointer temperment. He will return his new family's love 110%. He is just a wonderful dog. His growth has slowed down a bit so I am thinking his adult weight will be around 80 lbs.

1/6/06-1/8/06 Ben had another great weekend with us. No accidents this time in the house. He barks when he hears a strange noise, which is comforting (our dog used to do the same thing) but is very friendly with new people. He met my brother and best friend for the first time and they got nothing but kisses! He was a little more curious with our cats, but only because they would run and hiss at him. He just wants to smell them to see what they are. A stern NO from us, and he leaves them alone. He got a bath, which was a 2 person job, and he was pretty scared after the fact. His little heart was just pounding. But, after 2 treats, and time laying on the couch wrapped up in a towel just so he wouldn't catch a chill laying between me and my husband, he was fine. His coat is so fine that he dried in no time! He went for a very long walk both days which tired him out, but loved every minute of the new smells along the routes. He again was a joy!

UPDATE: We had the wonderful opportunity to have Ben from Friday until Sunday, ringing in the new year with us! He is as gentle as his name! He is a wonderful companion coming to us when called from outside, and loves to sit on the couch with you. He is a snuggler when either laying on the couch with you or sharing your bed! He is doing well with housetraining, only one accident during the whole weekend, and it was while I was preparing dinner. He graciously did his accident on the kitchen floor, so it was an easy clean up for us. When asked to go outside, he will walk to our back door now. He was lonely downstairs by himself at night, so we brought his kennel up to our bedroom, and he slept like a baby for a good 5-6 hours.

We did not have any problems with him "nipping" or chewing on items he shouldn't be. A simple "NO" from us, and that usually kept him out of trouble. He was very good around our two cats. He was curious of them wanting to know where they were hiding, but did not chase them. Our cats were more concerned about him than he was of them! We took him on two walks, and he does ok for a puppy his age. In time, he will become a good walking companion. Ben loved his rawhide bone, and reindeer toy we bought for him chewing on it until his heart was content. He is a joy to have around, and will become a "gentle giant" of a dog.

Our sweet Gentle Ben (formerly Sam) who looks just like a little Doberman. His Mommy Belle is an English Pointer so he has some of her ticking. He is a very
handsome pup and for any Dobie lover, this dog looks will make someone very happy.

He is very much a people pup. Even when all of the other dogs are playing, if he has a choice, he will follow his humans.

He was neutered 12-22-05 at only 14 weeks because he is already 30 pounds! This is going to be one VERY large boy when full grown. He is pictured here with his best friend Dodger who is 10 months old and weighs 39 pounds. You can see the comparsion in their size.

He has a very sensitive nature and when he is unsure of a situation, you can feel his heart beating in his chest. For that reason, I want him to be adopted into a home with previous puppy and dog experience only.

He also will require an installed completely fenced in yard. He is so large that he will need lots of room to run and play.

11-29-05:
We have just determined that since the pups have shot up to almost 18 pounds in the last two weeks and have gotten very tall, they may end up weighing more then we thought. We now feel that we should list them as LARGE since they may go to 60-80 pounds.

All pups are pictured with the Mom Belle who is an English Pointer. She was rescued very pregnant with this litter. These puppies have been lovingly hand raised by the family who rescued Belle.

All L&F dogs/pups are crate & potty trained, temperament tested, have been chosen for sweet & gentle dispositions, have lived in foster homes with families, and have had the following:

SPAYED/NEUTERED

Microchipping

Tested for Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia

On HeartGuard & Frontline Plus

Rabies, Distemper, Parvo vaccines.

Intra Trac ll Kennel Cough

Two De-Worming

Puppy Adoption Policies:
* We do not place puppies in homes where they will be left alone all day. Part-time employment is ok. Puppies, like babies, need lots of attention, socialization, and cuddles. We do not feel that it is humane to leave them in a crate for 8-10 hours at a time.

* An installed fence is mandatory if there are children in the home. The Invisible Fence companies give a discount to people who adopt from rescues. The fence must be installed before an adoption application will be processed. There are no exceptions to this.

* We will only adopt puppies to people who have had PRIOR personal puppy raising experience. This policy is due to people wanting puppies, then finding out just how much work they really are, and then they return them or worse, drop them off to shelters.

* We also can no longer adopt puppies/dogs to people who have children under (8) years old UNLESS the children have been raised with puppies and dogs all their lives. This policy has been made necessary due to having our pups returned after the novelty wore off. We're told it's because they have been "nipping" at the kids. That is what puppies do and we need to find our pups homes with people who understand and expect this as "normal" behavior.
