2/14/06 Well, Scout will be staying with his foster family permanently. He's really bonded with the whole family, including their male dog Ty, who doesn't usually like other dogs. Ty is suffering from a terminal genetic muscular disorder, but playing with Scout is helping keep him active longer. What a great Valentine's present for everyone!
2/9/06 Scout is a very sweet young man. He loves to go jogging and eat his rawhides. He is a gentle dog that gets along well with dogs. He loves the cats and does not wish to do them any harm however, he has a hard time realizing when the cat does not want to play. He has been slapped around by the cats here plenty. He doesn't seem to be real quick at learning that it hurts when they slap.
1/27/06 Scout has learned the invisible fence now, and knows sit and come. He's been great in the crate and is doing well with housetraining. When my husband & I had bad colds recently and spent a day each napping on the couch, we'd wake up and find him cuddled up next to us with his head in our laps.
He LOVES the cats and is very gentle with them. He even has tried to bring them toys and then whines when they don't want to play with him. He is such a sweetie!
1/22/06 Scout did great at his first public outing. No car sickness, liked everyone including the kids he met,got along with all the dogs, although some seemed overwhelmed with his puppy enthusiasm. We do think he's going to be an alpha when he matures- although he's just playing now, there's a lot of dominance play in it.
1/15/06 Update: Scout has fit right in-he's devoted to our alpha male Cody, who has accepted him into the pack as a little brother. We're working on his training and he's doing well with housetraining, the invisible fence, and basic commands. He's fine in the crate both at night and when we leave him during the day. He's such a love bug too and likes to cuddle up with us and give kisses. Any family would be lucky to have him!
One thing though- he is a talker and makes different noises for every mood and activity.
1/11/06 Update from foster family. Scout is the sweetest wigglebutt puppy you could possibly imagine. He LOVES everyone, and everyone who has met him adored him too. I don't know if his tail ever stops wagging! And he is gorgeous too! He has a soft brown/tan doublecoat. Definitely some shepherd, some Akita, and something else smaller, because at only 30 pounds at 6 months, he won't get as big as either of those breeds.
This 6 month old shepherd pup is coming in from West Virginia Sunday 1/08/06, and Rosie says he is just fabulous! Look at those eyes! Look how loving this darling pup is. We are very happy he will be with us soon.
All L&F dogs/pups are crate & potty trained, temperament tested, have been chosen for sweet & gentle dispositions, have lived in foster homes with families, and have had the following:
SPAYED/NEUTERED
Microchipping
Tested for Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia
On HeartGuard & Frontline Plus
Rabies, Distemper, Parvo vaccines.
Intra Trac ll Kennel Cough
Two De-Worming
PLEASE NOTE: We do not place puppies in homes where they will be left alone all day. Part-time is ok. Puppies, like babies, need lots of attention, socialization and cuddles. We do not feel that it is humane to leave them in a crate for 8-10 hours at a time.
If you are applying for an adult dog, we do expect that if no one is home all day, arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) "potty break" daily, whether it is through a family member, neighbor or petsitting service. We know that it is impossible for us humans to "hold it" for 8-10 hours, so we do not want our "shelter kids" to be expected to do so.
