UPDATE: Nanny is so loving. Every morning when she gets up she runs over to give me hugs and kisses -- even before she potty's --- she need to give kisses. She is a sweet and gentle soul. She plays with her foster brother and sisters but far prefers to be with us humans. She just thinks we're wonderful! Who doesn't want or need someone in your life who just loves and adores you?

This is our smallest puppy Nanny. She is quite cute, petite, and so very affectionate. She just wants to cuddle in your arms. When she sees me she comes running to be with me. She seems to be the calmest one. She also seems to be the observer. She plays with everyone but then goes and sits and watches. I mean she is really watching. I'm sure she is very intelligent.

She is small black one with white markings on the right of this picture. We named her Nanny because I'm afraid I thought she looked like one of her parents may have been a goat by those ears of hers! (The other 2 are with DE Puppy Rescue)

DE Puppy Rescue took four of them and we took three because they all have Demodectic Mange. It's not contagious to humans or other animals, but as you can see it's not too pretty. I'm sure the pups are feeling very uncomfortable. We do have to treat them with a special bath and topical cream for about a month. They will be good as new and their hair will grow back. This will just be a distant memory a month from now.

We're accepting adoption applications but they will not be ready to go home for a few weeks at least. We need to make sure their health is really improved before we can allow them to leave us. If interested please read our adoption policies first, and if qualified, fill out our online adoption application.

These (7) pups were transported to Delaware- (4) went to Delaware Puppy www.DelawarePuppyRescue.com and 3 are with us.

We need (2) things - individual foster homes who would be willing to continue their medical treatments, and pre-approved adoption applications.

From Wetzel West Virginia:
Marleen,
Can you PLEASE post this? We got them in from the neighboring county 2 days ago. They are diagnosed with Demodectic Mange which is NOT CONTAGIOUS (good news) and is treatable (good news) but there are 7 of them and we just do not have time or space to treat them and hold them for months (bad news). We are getting so many unwanted dogs that were Christmas gifts and do not have space to hold them during treatment. I am looking for foster homes and rescues to pull them. I am sending out pleas to rescues

They just need "dipped" every 10 days. Time is the key that will save these beautiful pups. Someone got them in a free to a good home ad in the local trading paper. They took all 7 (were a horrible home also) and then realized they had mange. Instead of diagnosing and treating, they passed them on to another horrible family who called us. Poor pups are very loving and pretty. It is mostly just on the faces and the front feet but it is diagnosed. Please let me know! Thanks for your help!

PLEASE NOTE:
Puppy Adoption Policies:
* We do not place puppies in homes where they will be left alone all day. Part-time employment is ok. Puppies, like babies, need lots of attention, socialization, and cuddles. We do not feel that it is humane to leave them in a crate for 8-10 hours at a time.

* An installed fence is mandatory if there are children in the home. The Invisible Fence companies give a discount to people who adopt from rescues. The fence must be installed before an adoption application will be processed. There are no exceptions to this.

* We will only adopt puppies to people who have had PRIOR personal puppy raising experience. This policy is due to people wanting puppies, then finding out just how much work they really are, and then returning them or worse, dropping them off to shelters.

* We also can no longer adopt puppies/dogs to people who have children under (8) years old UNLESS the children have been raised with puppies and dogs all their lives. This policy has been made necessary due to having our pups returned after the novelty wore off. We're told it's because they have been "nipping" at the kids. That is what puppies do and we need to find our pups homes with people who understand and expect this as "normal" behavior.

Pups are scheduled to be spayed/neutered 02-09-06 @ the
Kent County SPCA
