UPDATE: Our dearest special boy went home with his new Mom that he met at a Mingle. We know now that his life will be filled with love and devotion and he will be her little prince!

UPDATE: 09-23-07 -- Our dear Ari met his Mom to be at one of our Mingles. She fille out our lenghty application and then his foster Mom did the home visit today. Ari is going home! We are so happy for him. He is truly one of our dearest most special sweetest pups we had had the pleasure of touching our lives. We did our job, Dr. Gray fixed his little broken body and we found his new Mom. It was a very very good day in rescue!

Update 8/20/07:
Well, it's been a few weeks since his surgery and this beautiful boy is as active as ever! I had the privilege of taking care of Ari while his foster mom was away. Not only was he as good as gold, but he played, wrestled, and ran with my other dogs like he never had a problem. I have a 2 story colonial with a basement that did not stop him from following me and the rest of my brood all over the house. My husband and I took him for walks around the neighborhood where he would use his bad leg without realizing it. He LOVES walks! In spite of all that he has been through, this wonderful boy has come out a winner.

This is our newest "broken dog" who is a very small (under 40 pounds) red -- who we thought was a Golden Retriever mix but we were told he is actually a Nova Scotia Duck Trolling Retriever --- Ok, never heard of that one before!!

Our poor Aristotle came to us on his very last day from a shelter in VA. They knew he had an badly injured back leg but noticed that he was always wagging his tail and trying to give kisses to anyone who walked by his kennel.

That's when they contacted L&F Dog Rescue and asked if we had room for one more. Well, no actually we didn't --but we're suckers for "broken dogs" here. That is because we are lucky enough to have a wonderful vet like Dr. Brad Gray from Brandywine Vet Hospital in Chadds Ford PA who is willing to work with our "broken dogs" and make them whole again.

His case turned out to be very bad for him. His little body is full of buckshot from his neck to his tail. When Dr. Gray first looked at his X-rays he thought the film was bad since it was lit up but that turned out to be hundred's of buckshot's.

He was also hit by a car and had to have knee surgery which has already been repaired. Then Dr. Gray found he had a bullet, not buckshot, a bullet lodged in the bone of his back paw. It has been there for so long that it has fused and would be more invasive to try to remove it then to leave it there. Ari is currently going through PT and is coming along beautifully --- even better then we had hoped. He runs around like a normal boy and is learning how to walk on his back leg. He is now going up and down steps and we expect a full and complete recovery -- again thanks to Dr. Brad Gray!

Ari owns the heart of each and every L&F volunteer because he has so much LOVE in that small body of his that he just melts your heart. He gives away kisses to anyone who stops long enough to say Hi. Humans are his world and all he wants --and all we want is for him -- is to find his own very special family who will allow him to give them all the love he has inside of him. This is the kind of dog that the term companion was designed for!

PLEASE NOTE:
Any dog/pup adopted from us must have a fenced in property either Physical or Electric Fence. The fence must be installed/or firm commitment prior to us processing an adoption application. If you need a fence for your dog, but are not permitted to have a physical fence, or chose not to, please visit our friends at Pet Stop. Mention that you saw them at our website. http://www.petstop.com/

We abide by the Humane Association's recommendation. For ANY DOG adoption to have a relatively good chance of success, we believe a child should be 8 years old & up. We only adopt what we call our "BONA-FIDE Kid Lovers to families with children." Many dogs do not want to live with children. You should only adopt a dog who LOVES kids to be sure you are able to make a lifetime commitment to a dog.

We also expect that if no one is home all day, arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) "potty break" daily. This can be through a family member, neighbor, or Petsitting service. We know that it is impossible for us humans to "hold it" for 8-10 hours, so we do not want our "shelter kids" to be expected to do so.

We have several Petsitting service companies that we can recommend:
