I fell in love with this little face the moment I saw him sitting in our favorite shelter in WV, Wetzel. That day I pulled (7) puppies from Rosy at Wetzel. I knew that since I have such high standards that I would find them wonderful homes -- even if it meant I would end up house breaking 7 puppies -- which I did!

We only accept the *cream of the crop* as our L&F adopters which is now at 389 with Buttons adoption. We choose the kind of people who have birthday parties with hats & gifts, people who would never for a second think of allowing their beloved 4-legged child to run off-leash in an un-fenced in area, anymore then they would allow 2 legged children to play on a highway, people who have a wonderful fenced in yard to provide a safe haven to play in - not get *stuck in* -  people who worry about being gone too long so they always provide a pet sitter to come in & give their *baby* a potty break since they know they can *hold it* but they know how uncomfortable it is to have to do so, people whose parents consider their children's dogs their grandchildren, people who can not imagine life without a dog(s) in it.

That is who we adopt to and that is the kind of home I provided for Buttons. He has a Mommy, Dad, grandparents and I met one of his Aunt's when I took him home. I stood there and watched him run & play & attempt to bury his new treasured toys -- I watched as he ran around like a young colt in a wonderful Fall day. I watched him cozy up & give his belly to his new Mommy Robyn. I watched him try to bury his new bones in her sofa -- I watched him play with his new Aunt on the floor.

I'm tearing up writing this b/c as much as I love that little guy who has been a huge part of my life for 8 months now -- I sent him home. That is my job to find him his parents who will love him as much as I do for the rest of his life. My heart, my head & my gut knew that Buttons was home. They never go home until we foster parents feel that we have provided the best home possible for our foster kids & they will be the luckiest dog in the world to live their life with this family.

Here at L&F Dog Rescue, they are always our top priority, we have a deep commitment to find them a perfect home for their needs. It was a bittersweet day for me - always is when I send one of my foster kids home -- but I love them so much that I am willing to take the pain so that they can have what they deserve. It was a very good day in rescue this week since three of our L&F's went home.

Surprisingly enough - I have many critics --  people who have never for one moment done rescue at this level  -- or any level at all. Based on no experience at all -- they all have the same complaint -- my STANDARDS ARE TOO HIGH -- (they always use CAPS when telling me how I should run my rescue) and say -- if I would *lower* my standards I could rescue more dogs!  Well, as I always say -- I do rescue dogs, that is who I am -- and what I do -- but when I do - I make a life time commitment to that dog to provide that dog with an excellent home - not just *any home* that will take them. But, that's just me & what I have believed for almost seven years now -- is my right to run this rescue according to my standards - not someone else's for the sake of the dogs I rescue from high kill shelters across the country.

UPDATE from Butties Foster Mom: This dear little pup stole my heart the moment I saw him sitting in a shelter in WV with his sisters Ribbons & Bows.  Their baby pictures are below.

He is not outgoing like the rest -- he is timid & it only take a few moments for him to believe you are his friend but he is hand shy since he had already been hit as a puppy!

He always had my heart since all of the pups and adult dogs picked on him from the moment he arrived. He must have been the Omega in the group. That meant I had to keep him with me for protection. He has always been such a good little boy. He seems to be a "very old soul"  -- even when he was a baby.

He has been in many weekend play-dates with volunteers - their comments are below. Everyone loves -  loves  - loves Buttons because he just is happy to spend his time with adults.

As he got older he started to be able to hold his own among the dogs in the pack and they don't pick on him anymore. He loves his doggy friends but he is most content spending time on my sofa (no chewing!) or just playing with his toys. He also pee-pee's like a little girl which I always find enchanting in a male dog.

He is the most easy going pup that we have. As much as I love his beautiful face and eyes -- his eyes are SO striking -- I want him to start his life being the beloved child of his own family. That is my job - to find each of them their own families!

An update from her Foster Mom:
Buttons is doing great. He is completely at home with his new foster family and loved very deeply.  We are all amazed that a puppy can be so easy.  He is 100% crate trained.  With us for a week, he has not had one accident.  Although playful the way puppies should be, he is not at all hyper.  He is actually a very calm and loving dog.  He likes to take long walks.  Today we walked about three miles!  He is very friendly to other dogs along the way.  He sleeps in his crate at night.  That is what he is used to and seems to be very comfortable in it.  The first night he whimpered for about five minutes.  Ever since then he just goes in and goes to sleep for the night without a sound.  During the day, he is not in his crate when someone is home, but he does not roam all over.  He likes to stay wherever the people are.  Or, he will lay with our other two dogs to take a nap.  He likes his chew toys but has not chewed on anything he isn't supposed to.  We are totally amazed at how easy Buttons is to care for!  Our hope is that a family with lots of love and kindness will someday adopt him.  He deserves it.

On his  walk today he was very intrigued by a squirrel that ran up the tree.  Right now he is laying on the sofa between my son and me.  I will put him in the crate again when we go up.  His paws are so-o-o-cute.  I feel like holding his paws right now but he is sleeping.  He is just adorable.

He definitely has the idea to return the toy to have it thrown again and is loving that. He will be a good guard dog.  He has barked at my husband and son when they have come in the house until he knew who they were.  Although he would probably never hurt a fly, someone he is barking at wouldn't know that so he would keep strangers away.  You really just couldn't ask for a better dog.  It is amazing that you have them all crate trained.  What new owner wouldn't love that?

He is extremely sweet & loving. He is going to be a medium sized beautiful black with silver markings GSD. He is very sweet, but he is also timid so needs someone who has experience with timid dogs. He is playful, very active and would love being cuddled and loved every day. He has a soft, shy, gentle spirit.  So far, he is a follower rather then a leader. He plays with all the toys but seems to prefer balls. We will only adopt him to someone who has adult previous puppy raising experience, works from home or part-time.  This will help him become the good little doggy citizen that all puppies and dogs need to be.

He is going to be a striking adult dog. He & his sisters Ribbons & Bows arrived from our favorite shelter in WV - Wetzel. They are GSD & Husky mixed pups who will require  fenced in yards to grow up in.

He is in foster care and has been housetrained & crate trained. He has been neutered, up-to-date with all shots, microchipped & de-wormed.

We believe through our own experience that puppies need to be hand-raised just like children - not left in a crate. We will only adopt any of our pups into homes where their parents works from home or part-time. We will not accept applications for anyone who does not have time to raise a puppy AND who has had personal experience at doing so.
