UPDATE: It took a long time to find his family but we finally did. Covey, now Chase went home to live in Williamstown NJ. When he saw his new back yard which is HUGE he ran around and around with more joy then I had ever saw him have. He knew he was home and this was all his.

His new parents have their own business so he will be with them most of the time, he can even go to work with them.

He is an only child but he does have an adult 2 legged sister and brother and his sister will be bringing in infant into the home soon. I know he will be very loving of a new grandchild.

I feel very blessed that the right people came along to give my little guy the peace and love he so deserves -- they all deserve a loving family.

It was a good day in rescue!

UPDATE- Covey is doing so well thanks to being in foster care. He is doing very well. He gets along good with "foster" sister Brandy. He is a major kisser, so if you want kisses 24/7 he is for you! My daughter wanted to nickname him "Slurpee" b/c that's all he does is slurp. He loves to look out the window! He will sit up on my couch in front of the window most of the day. He has learned how to sit, walks well on the leash and is somewhat learning fetch. Another thing he likes is his kong, he will chew on that for an hour at a time if not more. At night he will curl up on the couch and go to sleep well before his "bedtime". He does get these rare bursts of energy from time to time which isn't a bad thing because its not all the time. We know that's his way of telling us he wants to play.

UPDATE: Covey has arrived and it's true, he is the most joyful boy. The moment we met on the transport he bestowed his gentle kisses. He is indeed a tail thumper and a L&F Wiggle Butt! He is smaller then I thought at about 25 pounds.

He does have a profound scar on his forehead and ear. It is as if someone did something terribly unspeakable to him that made 3rd degree burns! You can see by the picture how bad it was.

He doesn't act like a dog who has been abused, he is just a good natured young boy looking for his new family.

What we do know about Covey is that he can not be placed with male dogs. He LOVES his girlfriends but it seems he's had a rough life with males and he is afraid of them. I also think he is an alpha male so we just want him to live with sisters.

Covey is a young small size Beagle Boy who charmed everyone at the shelter. He is a "tail-thumper" which means the minute he hears someone coming -- that tail of his starts thumping & sounds like someone knocking on the door. One of my favorite things about dogs.

We just lost our almost 14 year old girl Nessie who was my best, best, best "tail thumper" and I miss that sound so much! Since I miss that sound, that saved Covey's life since I chose to pull him from a high kill shelter based on his happy disposition & being a tail thumper! Now you will be able to adopt a wonderful, happy go-lucky boy like Covey. The shelter says he has scars on his head and ears -- as if someone had poured hot grease on him, but even though humans have been unspeakably unkind to him, he still loves them. That to me is one of the most fascinating things about dogs. Their endless supply of love even when we humans have treated them so unkindly.

We will have to have him neutered and vetted and placed in foster care for a few weeks so we can evaluate him. We will be accepting applications and hope to find, as always, the perfect home for each of the L&F Shelter Kids!

Please read ALL our adoption policies BEFORE applying for a puppy or dog.

If you would like to fill out an application, you must first register on the website and await an e-mailed passcode. Once you have this info, you will be able to access our application.

PLEASE NOTE:
Any dog/pup adopted from us must have a fenced in property either Physical or Electric Fence. The fence must be installed/or firm commitment prior to us processing an adoption application. If you need a fence for your dog, but are not permitted to have a physical fence, or chose not to, please visit our friends at Pet Stop. Mention that you saw them at our website. http://www.petstop.com/

We abide by the Humane Association's recommendation. For ANY DOG adoption to have a relatively good chance of success, we believe a child should be 8 years old & up. We only adopt what we call our "BONA-FIDE Kid Lovers to families with children." Many dogs do not want to live with children. You should only adopt a dog who LOVES kids to be sure you are able to make a lifetime commitment to a dog.

We also expect that if no one is home all day, arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) "potty break" daily. This can be through a family member, neighbor, or Petsitting service. We know that it is impossible for us humans to "hold it" for 8-10 hours, so we do not want our "shelter kids" to be expected to do so.

We have several Petsitting service companies that we can recommend:
