02/26/06 Wendee was a chrmer at the Mingle and we found out she LOVES KIDS of all ages. It's was obvious to all that she's a sweetheart who will definitely make a great family pet.

This stunning two year old came to us from the SPCA in Georgetown, DE. Her family surrendered her because they had to move. Can NOT tell you how many times we see and hear that!

She is petite, around 35 pounds and so pretty, so sweet, so happy to be alive. When you talk to her she wiggles her butt so hard that her tail bangs her head. She is a darling girl and we were surprised but she is already spayed.

She is getting along with all the foster dogs, haven't tested her with kids or cats yet but we will.

She is quiet but she does sort of mumble with joy. She sort of purrs. I'm very happy we were able to get her out of the shelter and into foster care. Wendee will make a great and loving companion.

Update from foster mom 2/18/06:
Wendee is adjusting nicely to her new surroundings. At first, she was a bit stand-offish, choosing not to join her foster sisters and brother but she has since come around and is no longer quite so overwhelmed! Is it almost impossible to capture how adorable Wendee is. She has the sweetest face with what look like freckles around her nose. You can tell that she was once a member of a family because she is very comfortable around people and in fact, I think she would be happiest as an only dog or maybe one of two so that she doesn't have to work quite so hard to get your attention. She would let you pet her for hours on end! She loves to be near her "person" but she doesn't constantly seek your attention either. If you are near by, she is happy. She was wonderful with my friend's granddaughters (ages 4 and 8)allowing them to pet her endlessly and gently accepting treats but again, she seems to be used to a quieter environment and I don't think a "rough and tumble" approach would suit her. As far as I can tell, she is housebroken. There have been no accidents in the house and when she wants to go out, she stands at the back door. Even though she has the "bay" of a hound, she rarely barks. The only time I've heard her bark is when she wants the rest of my crew to back off. She is not aggressive about it but she is definitely asserting her desire to be left alone. She does have that beagle tendency to "talk" to you and with her, it is like a purr or sort of a low growl that is not a growl at all but rather a sign of contentment. Wendee is low-key but having said that, I would also have to say that a fenced yard is a must for her because she does like to run and if she's anything like the other beagles I've known, if given the opportunity, she would be off chasing whatever might have caught her scent. Beyond that, she needs a roof over her head and someone to shower her with love and the pleasure of your company. To sum it up: Wendee is well mannered, quiet, adorable (with a capital A) and even tempered. If you would like to meet Wendee, please come out for our anniversary Mingle with Mutts on Saturday, February 25th. Hope to see you there!
