UPDATE 10-11-06: Ellie Mae went to her new home last night. I have known this beautiful creature for a long time and I have never, ever, ever --- seen her so happy and relaxed. She washed her new Dad's face with kisses, she accepted the rawhide that her 4 legged brother offered her. He brought her his tote bag of toys and rawhides as he did the first time he met her. She looked adoringly at her new Mom and when it was time for me to go she said
"Thank YOU Marleen for finding me my forever home! Gotta go now and snuggle with my Dad on the sofa while we watch the ball game."

El has a full 1 acre property to play and hunt on. It backs up to 40 acres so there will be lots of wild life passing right behind her house. Luckily for her, her new parents are having the electric fence from Petstop installed on their new 6 foot privacy fence. That way she is doubly protected from being able to get out of the yard. El is a Foxhound and we have already seen how she reacts when she see squirrels so it is great that she will not be able to get too close to the wood fence.

I am so grateful to have a found a family that saw what a beautiful girl she is and was willing to do whatever it took to make her safe.

It was a GREAT DAY in RESCUE!!

UPDATE: Ellie Mae is finally going home to start her new life in Mullica Hill, NJ. She is going to get a new Mom, Dad and Big Chocolate lab brother Silas. When Silas met his new sister for the first time, he went down the hallway and brought her his tote bag full of toys and bones. He was bringing it to her but the toys and bones spilled out along the way. He still presented his sister with all his belongings as his sweet offering to her. We are so happy for our beautiful. A new family and a one acre fenced in property. This Foxhound will be in heaven!!

Ellie Mae is the most beautiful creature I have ever seen. She is a pedigreed Foxhound (no papers) Her soulful eyes are so expressive and her coat and ears are as soft as velvet.

She had a hard time before she arrived from WV where she had a broken leg for a long time before she was captured by Rosy's and brought to us so we could get her leg repaired --- and it is. We raised the money with fundraising so her medical bills have all been paid in FULL including her adoption donation!!

What we have discovered is she is a "pack dog" and needs to be with other dogs. She loves people but somehow in her mind, other dogs make her feel safe.

She loves the dogs here so much that kisses them on the lips (that is actually very submissive behavior)
and she always looks happy when she is with her doggy friends.

If you have a dog who is lonely and needs a friend --- then Ellie Mae is the girl for you. She would cherish having a friend to kiss and lay next to. She licks and grooms all of the foster dogs. She is very maternal and she cares for her foster brothers & sisters as if they were her puppies. She just LOVES LOVES LOVES dogs-

NO kitties because she is hound and she thinks they are prey. We will only adopt Ellie Mae to a family who has another dog.

Since she is so submissive by nature, she can live with either male or female.

I can not look at her without being moved by her. She just wants to be loved and to give all the love she has. She just licks and gives kisses to dogs and people alike.

She does hit the ground when it is noisy. I'm sure that is because her former owner in WV was a hunter and shot guns. I also think she was kicked around because sometimes when I am walking toward her she just huddles up in a ball. So sad!!

She has come a long with way with her abuse issues but again it would be best to place her in a family who understands that some noises are
going to be make her fearful.

We have found out something important and that is --- she does NOT travel well. I had taken her to Brandywine Vet Hospital weekly and the moment I put her in the truck she starts to drool, I mean REALLY drool.

I'm working on a combination of Benadryl, Rescue Remedy, no food prior to transport. After a few trips, I finally figured out that she needs to be transported with newspapers in her crate rather then blankets as I'm accustomed to. I'm supposed to be the experienced transporter of the group and that took me several trips to figure that one out!!

I honestly feel that with practice and the correct combination of medication she will be better, but we need to say that she may not ever get any better.

This will not be a real issue unless she is adopted by a family that takes their dog everywhere. In that case, she would not be a good match. On the other hand, if you are the kind of family that your dog stays home and only goes to the vet or groomer, Ellie Mae's problem should not be a huge issue. As long as you are willing to transport in a crate with newspapers!

Believe me, this is a tiny issue compared to having this lovely creature in your life. When you look in her face, squeeze those velvet ears of hers, you'll understand what I mean.

UPDATE: Ellie Mae is just over a one year old, pedigreed Foxhound (no papers) for all the good it did her.

She is exceedingly sweet, gentle, calm, loving little girl who doing GREAT!

She is having her pins removed on 04-10-06. Her breaks are healing perfectly and she is getting ready to find her forever family.

Dr. Brad Gray, her surgeon,
thought that she would probably always limp because her leg was fractured for so long without treatment, but that turned out not to be true. He repaired her leg perfectly and she walks on it. You would never know she had such a severe break.

UPDATE: 03-11-06 - Ellie Mae's Rescue Angel Sponsors have PAID her medical bill so far of $1,140.39 to repair her leg. It had been broken for months and this poor dog has been dragging that painful leg around all that time in WV!

UPDATE 03-09-06:
Under that yellow bandage are metal posts and metal plates screwed into her bones. When I saw it I thought I was going to faint!

This is the official diagnosis from our vet:
"A lateral and AP of the left radius and ulna were taken revealing a non-healing compound fracture with a great deal of callus" (Which means this happened a few months ago)

Surgery: "A compound radius and ulnar fracture was repaired with a pin in the ulna and type 2 external fixator with 2 pins and 4 half pins. A small wedge of displaced bone was removed from the ulna."

Long term Prognosis:
Ellie Mae will have a full recovery. She may always limp but he said she will be comfortable. Total amount due: $1140.39

I have fallen completely in love with this gentle creature. Her ears feel like velvet! She is so sweet, and with all the pain she lets us do anything to her. Today is the very first day of her playing with toys AND falling asleep on her back with her paws in the air! I always feel very honored when the trust me so much that they can allow themselves to be that vulnerable.

Please Note:
We do not adopt our puppies to people who work full-time. Part-time is OK. We do not believe in leaving infants in crates all day.

We also expect that if no one is home all day, arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) "potty break" daily. This can be through a family member, neighbor, or Petsitting service. We know that it is impossible for us humans to "hold it" for 8-10 hours, so we do not want our "shelter kids" to be expected to do so.

We have several Petsitting service companies that we can recommend:

2/26/06 Ellie Mae has arrived on an emergency transport from a shelter in West Virginia. She was hit by a car and they could not afford to treat her there, so we brought her to Delaware. In the picture you can see her broken front leg and how swollen it is. This regal beauty wants to play with everyone. She just LOVES dogs and puppies and people. She is a darling, sweet, gentle creature. Even with her pain --- she is on pain medication but still, that is one horrible break she has --- she just seems thrilled to be with us. The fear and pain has been taken over by contentment.

Update 3/01/06
She was operated on Wednesday by Dr. Brad Gray from Brandywine Vet Hospital in Chadds Ford, PA. He has helped save the lives of Cooper, Hailey, Loni and now Ellie Mae. We feel very grateful that we have a Vet of his caliber to perform the surgeries of our rescue dogs.

Now she will need "sponsors" to help cover her medical bills for her surgery, physical therapy and underwater treatment at the Brandywine Vet Hospital, Chadds Ford PA.

02/22/06 (Here was the original email from West Virginia): From Rosy: Marleen, here's another that needs "help". I found her running in the woods, but she would not come to me and was so skinny. She was across from the ground keepers cabin. We carried a box with straw (it was going to be 1 degree that night, but turned out to be 2 below) up to the woods and canned food and dry food. I talked to the grounds keeper and he said that Bob (dog warden) had shot her with a tranquilizer gun the day before and then did not go look for her, so the poor dog was probably really freezing as she could not even control her body temp! When I was leaving, I saw her hobbling across the highway. I chased her again, to the 4-H camp, where Carol was walking a dog. I yelled at Carol to bring the dog closer and then the little coon dog followed the other dog to the shelter. Still shy but OH SO SWEET!! Of course, right now we just have her on antibiotics, but that leg is definitely broken, and our vets do not even x ray. But she is eating well and loves her big old box of straw!

We now accept VISA/MC for Donations and to pay for Adoptions Donations which are TAX Deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

No donation is too small --- Donations may be mailed to:

Lost and Found Dog Rescue Adoption Center

UPDATE 02-28-06: This is Ellie Mae with her new best girlfriend Dixie. Dixie came from the same shelter Wetzel in WV. They may be talking about how Rosy saved both their lives and the lives of so many there
in West Virginia.

From: Mary Oetzel As my friends and family know, I am a dog lover. But my sister-in-law, Marleen Oetzel rescues dogs through Lost & Found Dog Rescue. Below are email from Marleen and Rosy at the Wetzel Shelter regarding “Ellie Mae”.

I read these e-mails and was so upset that Ellie Mae was hit by a car, almost froze to death and in pain with a broken leg. Normally, I just make a small donation to the Lost & Found Dog Rescue to help with an extra medical cost required to get one of our furry sheltered kids healthy and ready for adoption (we all know how high these vet bills are). However, Ellie Mae’s story really touched me and I’m going to go the extra mile for this girl.

If you can find it in your heart to help in getting Ellie Mae’s leg fixed and with finding her a warm loving home, I am running a raffle to win a $50 gift certificate to Victoria’s Secret or Petsmart for a small donation of $5.00 a raffle ticket. Send your name & address with $5.00 in cash per completed raffle or a check payable to “Mary Oetzel” to 10 Tomahawk Drive, Marlton, NJ 08053. I will deposit all money and send one check to Marleen for Ellie Mae. The drawing will be on March 10th.

If you would personally like to go the “extra mile” to help Ellie Mae, please feel free to e-mail this to anyone you think would like to help. Or, if you would just like to make a donation and receive a tax deduction, you can sponsor Ellie Mae or one of the other dogs, or contribute to the Yushi Oetzel Emergency Fund through our secure website with Visa or Mastercard.

Below is the info and pics of Ellie Mae. You can see her broken front leg how swollen it is. Let’s get this girl fixed!
