UPDATE from Duke's New Family:
Lisa, I wanted to let you know that Duke is wonderful and everything is
going great! As it turns out we have not had to leave him alone very
much yet as my daughter is sick. I just found out today that she has
pneumonia... I did leave him for 2 1/2 hours while we were at the
doctor's and getting a chest x ray today and he was super. Lynne Young
came over on Monday and was a tremendous help to us. I realized how
uninformed I was. We have the kennel set up in the kitchen and he
willingly goes in it when he feels like it. We are keeping him gated in
the kitchen when we leave and he seems content. When I got home today he
was just hanging out in his kennel. At night he sleeps on a dog bed in
Kayla's room and doesn't make a peep. He is really a lovely dog. I think
Rasta is enjoying his company. She will give him a growl when she does
not want to play and he just lays down. I am looking forward to playing
with Dukey in the snow!
I'm so glad I found your organization and it makes me happy that we
could rescue such a wonderful dog.
We will be working with Lynn to do more training and I may even have him
become a therapy dog if all works out! He seems very bright.
Kristen
We have had only one other sweet, gentle, goofy, puppy-like 60 pound puppy before and that was our Howie. Well, this is the most adorable boy to come along ... since our dearest Howie.
(see our successes for Howie's story)
Howie is much beloved by his Mom & Dad
and I know that Duke will wiggle right into his adopted family heart in the same way and they will wonder how they ever lived without that cute face of his!!
Duke is truly a special wonderful,
gentle teddy bear. He is very puppy like, he is only a year old. He will make a wonderful companion. Since he was neutered when he was a pup, he still pee-pees like a little girl which I like with male dogs!
Duke arrived from a shelter in West Virginia as of New Year's Day. If you think you would like to give him a home (his former owners had to move and could not take him) please apply online.
This is from the shelter:
Notes: Duke was a baby when we last saw him. See photo #3 to see him as a pup. He has the sad story that many dogs do. Now that he is an adult, he is relinquished by his owners due to having to move. However the good news is, he is housetrained and neutered. Duke loves other dogs, cats, kids, people ... and try's to play with them all. He looks so much like he did as a baby, only HUGER. Such a big huggable dog. Wouldn't you want to hug his big baby every morning?
This pet is: up to date with routine shots, already house trained, altered
and has one free month of Pet Insurance from Petfinder.com
