UPDATE! It took a long time but we found the perfect family for Nanette'. She now has a new Mommy and a 2 legged brother and a huge back yard to hunt in! Woo-HOO! We are so happy for her and we know that she is our best girl to show people what we at L&F Dog Rescue is ... and that is hounds are the best dogs in the world. We love them all but we ADORE our hounds and you will to if you ever meet one!

UPDATE: Just a quick update on Nanette (Nettie). Nettie is an incredibly fun and funny girl. She spends most of her day lounging on the window seat as you can see. She loves to sit in the sun when available or laying at the feet of her foster grandmother, but is up and ready for a romp outside with the boys when they arrive home from school. She absolutely loves being petted and hugged or otherwise given attention. She learns quickly with a firm "no" what is acceptable and what is not. Nettie travels extremely well in a car and pulls very little on her lead, even when walking in the woods. She gets along very well with other dogs and even little children. Her personality is a mix of moderate energy and laid back. She just seems to go with the flow. One of her favorite games is stalking stink bugs. She can spend up to 1/2 hour entertaining and being entertained by one! Her beauty is exquisite with a smile that confirms what a happy pup she is!

UPDATE from Nanette's transporter & overnighter: She settled down after about five minutes in her crate and took a nice nap. She's played in the yard nicely with the boys (not Amos - he's in tact til his appt. with the vet on Wednesday) but she was great with my other big boys. Very lovable dog, not aloof at all - she's a love bug. Looks like she may have had pups semi-recently.

She let my husband look at her teeth and I cleaned her ears out she was great. I brushed her a little and she really loved that.

She's out walking with Adam right now, that's his favorite part. She's not bad on a leash, not a big puller.

She's a doll baby. She'll have NO trouble finding a good home.

By the way, my boy is a Redtick coonhound too, she doesn't have any of the tick marking but she has a similar face and ears. She's a beauty and has an amazing personality. She has a lot of love to give and she's not shy about giving it to people who are nice to her. She'll make a wonderful pet.

This very special girl is arriving today from our friends at Wetzel in WV. It seems that she is a geniune English Coonhound which explains her extreme beauty.

She came to Rosy as a stray but she is sure that she had been a pet in her life. She is completely housebroken and jumps in a truck like she has been doing it all her life. Someone must have loved this beauty once but since she is not spayed (she will be 9-10-07 by us) she must have been out there looking for a boyfriend and lost her way. Too often the case and the same with people seldom looking for their dogs once they dog get away.

Rosy is so full that she almost didn't make it out alive but we were looking for a Foxhound for another family and her picture came to us. How could we say NO? We don't always get girls as pretty as this one and I'm sure she will be starting her new life with someone in the Tri-State area soon.

As always, we evaluate our dogs for at least two weeks before we let them go to their new homes so we will be accepting applications but she will be staying in foster care. That is the best way to get to know what a dog is good at or not good at. It helps us make the right match for our dogs.

We also expect that if no one is home all day, arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) "potty break" daily. This can be through a family member, neighbor, or Petsitting service. We know that it is impossible for us humans to "hold it" for 8-10 hours, so we do not want our "shelter kids" to be expected to do so.

We have several Petsitting service companies that we can recommend:

Good Dog Animal Care -

We abide by the Humane Association's recommendation. For ANY DOG adoption to have a relatively good chance of success, we believe a child should be 8 years old & up. We only adopt what we call our "BONA-FIDE Kid Lovers to families with children." Many dogs do not want to live with children. You should only adopt a dog who LOVES kids to be sure you are able to make a lifetime commitment to a dog.

Any dog/pup adopted from us must have a fenced in property either Physical or Electric Fence. The fence must be installed before we will proceed with processing an adoption application. If you need a fence for your dog, but are not permitted to have a physical fence, or chose not to, please visit our friends at Pet Stop. Mention that you saw them at our website.
