Well my "Big Woman" went on an interview and home visit today and she charmed her new brother Jake, also a Lab rescue, and her new Mom & Dad. As promised, she is so lovely and very sweet and gentle and calm for a lab. She has a tragic story just a few weeks ago in WV and now she has a wonderful, loving family who will cherish her in the way she cherishes humans. I don't know why some of them still love us when they have been treated so unkindly by some. We're very happy for our pretty girl and I know she will have a wonderful fun & loved filled life.
UPDATE from Lauren's foster Mom:
Lauren has lived outdoors her whole life with little human contact yet she thinks we humans are just wonderful!! Where she came from in WV dogs are JUST animals, they ARE NOT pets like they are to us. Lauren and our puppy Jody were driven by their former owner far away from their home so they couldn't find their way back.
Lauren is a lovely cream color. She loves to play but she is NOT hyper. She is just thrilled to have toys! At first she did not know what toys were, again, an indiction that she was never treated as a beloved pet. She is "mouthy" just like puppy. Lauren is a 67 pound puppy in every way. I call her "Big WOMAN!" She is sweet, gentle and surprisingly calm for such a young lab. We believe she is perhaps about a year old.
She has no manners -- yet, she knows no basic commands -- yet. Tonight I got her to sit for Cheetos! She loves Cheetos so that proves she is trainable and is eager to learn.
Lauren is also one of those dogs who will LICK you to death!! If you are offended my being licked by a loving dog, then don't apply for Lauren.
All rescue dogs take time to learn what they were never taught as pups. She loves all the dogs here and really appears to be submissive. She is the biggest girl but she doesn't seem to know that. Lauren seems a little shy with my husband, but she trusts me and I know that she will learn to trust him also.
She will make an excellent pet especially when she learns the rules. We would prefer that she go to a home where people are familiar with the lab breed and have experience with dog training or are willing to go to classes or hire a trainer to come to your home.
UPDATE: My goodness, what a big (67 pounds!) sweet, friendly, gentle girl Lauren is! She has only been here since late Saturday and already she has found her way to the sofa! I don't believe that she ever lived indoors because everything is very new to her, the TV, dishwasher, can opener, these are all sounds that spooked her. That is usually how I can tell if they lived indoors or not.
We took her to get her spayed yesterday but much to our surprise, she had already been done. She rides very well in the car. We are going to evaluate her for another week just to get a clear picture of what her needs are.
We also need to test her with kids which hasn't been done yet but will this week.
We are accepting applications now so she can can go to her new home as soon as we evaluate her with our families. As with all L&F Rescue Dogs, she will be spayed, micro-chipped, up to date with all her shots, DE-wormed, Heartworm & Lyme tested, started on Heartgard & Frontline Plus, crate & potty trained.
