UPDATE: 03-17-07 - Well it only took 27 adoption applications to find Ozzie the perfect family for him. He will have his
own 14 year old girl to cuddle and sleep
with, a Mom & Dad and ironically, his
new 4 legged brother Tucker certainly seems to be the real brother of one of our other adopted shelter kids, Kayla.
They look exactly alike and came from
the same shelter.

We are so happy for Ozzie-Dozzie who has
been here a long time. He has a few minor flaws such as food & toy aggression with other dogs but since his
new family are an experienced rescue
family, they understand that some of our
babies come with some baggage from their
past.

Ozzie bestowed kisses all around, chased after his 4 legged brother Tucker, found Tucker *stash* of rawhide
bones and I expect it will always be
like that with them. Take the rawhides
out of the picture and Tucker will have
a little buddy to chase him from one end
of the house to the other.

It was a good day in rescue!!

UPDATE: This is how I find Ozzie every morning. When Ozzie realizes I'm going to bed, he runs in my bedroom, jumps on the bed, and burrows under the blanket. He does this every night. He positions himself behind my legs and just cuddles with me every night. I'm sure I move around alot during the night, but he loves to cuddle and he LOVES to be under the blanket, so he puts up with a lot to be close.

For that reason, I will only be able to place Ozzie/Dozzie in a home where he will be welcome in bed - under the covers.

He is a dear, sweet, affectionate little guy but he is not without a few minor flaws.

He LOVES the girls and he LOVES the boys. The problem is he LOVES his toys and his food more. He has great difficulty sharing either with the dogs. Other then that issue, he is the cutest, sweetest lover boy in the world. For this reason I feel he might need to be an "only child" or only adopted into a home with very, very experienced animal lovers. If that is you, please read the rest of his bio, and if qualified, you should apply online.

He is such a loving little boy but he does have some issues that are easy to deal with with the right family who must be experienced dog owners.

He has shown food aggression with the other dogs, NOT humans. That is easy to deal with, he just eats in his crate. The food issue is understandable. He was starved and some dogs will never forget that.

He truly loves playing with his buds. He LOVES to cuddle with his buds. I looked over and he had gotten all snuggled in with our old girl Jo who weighs about 100 pounds. She was asleep on the sofa (oh, the life of a L&F Rescue dog!) and he got in between her front legs and went to sleep with her.

My concern is that he will -- more often then not, NOT be able to play
with siblings living in the same home without taking all toys and bones
and believing that everything should be his.

I hope he is adopted into a home where he will have play-dates with friends and cousins. We also will not place him in a home with children under 12 (he loves kids but due to the food aggression - kids walk around with cookies so I don't want him to be stealing!) and only with experienced dog people who understand his food aggression.

UPDATE: Ozzie is my very special boy but he just proved to be even better then I thought he was. He sleeps with me and the other night he had to potty so he woke me up by giving me lots of kisses. He does that all the time but not usually while we're sleeping. Told him to go back to sleep but then he ran to my bedroom door and when I didn't get what he wanted (I had been asleep) he came up gave me MORE kisses then ran to the door again. AMAZING!!! My own dogs know to wake me if they have to go during the night but I have never had big wet kisses to be woke up. He is a perfect little boy my Ozzie. Just waiting for his very special own family to come along that will adore him. He is a wonderful, darling little companion dog.

UPDATE: As many people know I am a big dog person, the bigger the better -- but every once in awhile a small one like Ozzie comes along and I can see why people love the small ones so much!
He curls up on my shoulder and just snuggles in. I am in LOVE!!! He is so very special. At night when I go to bed he burrows down under the covers and sleeps between my legs. He snores but sounds like a cat purring. How can you not love a little creature like that?

He about 2 years old, only 20 pounds of pure cuteness, love and cuddles. He is housebroken, calm, and oh so affectionate. He just wants to be where I am. He will make the best little companion dog. He is really afraid of the vacuum. Guess where he came from in WV, he never saw one. He is friendly and playful with the dogs and get's along well with everyone. He is just a pure delight! We just had him neutered and vetted and he is ready to go home.

UPDATE Ozzie had a weekend playdate and this is his report. Excellent report for a little guy who just arrived a week ago into our rescue:
Ozzie walks pretty well on a leash.

He needs to have a home with people that have a lot of time for him and
don't mind having him constantly at their heels and wanting to sit on their laps. He loves to go for walks then he'll lay down at your feet and sleep. He does fine in a crate, but would rather be with you. He knows how to use the doggie door.

He has definitely been abused (and I think by a man) so whoever has him CANNOT yell at him. All it takes with him is a firm NO and he will never do it again (in fact he unfortunately will even cower at that; readying to be hit -so sad).

Oh, and he's also the best dog I've ever seen in the car. Sits in his seat, doesn't move or make a peep!

Finally, he LOVES to be LOVED and will do anything and everything to get your attention. He needs someone that wants a dog that will attach himself completely to them.

This is our new little guy Ozzie has who arrived on our transport Saturday from Rosy in WV. He and his daughter Harriet were dumped along the side of the road as often happens around there. Luckily for them they made it to Rosy's pound and she is getting him here with us.

PLEASE NOTE: Please read ALL our adoption policies BEFORE applying for a puppy or dog. Any puppy under 5 months old MUST have their spay/neuter PRE-PAID through the adoption donation. There are NO exceptions.

Any dog/pup adopted from us must have a fenced in property either physical or Electric Fence. The fence must be installed before we will proceed with processing an adoption application.

If you need a fence for your dog, but are not permitted to have a physical fence, or chose not to, please visit our friends at Pet Stop. Mention that you saw them at our website.

We abide by the Humane Association's recommendation. Although, they actually recommend the minimum age of the youngest child, for ANY DOG adoption to have a relatively good chance of success, to be at least 7 years old, we limit this policy to 8 years old.

If you would like to fill out an application, you must first register on the website and await an e-mailed passcode. Once you have this info, you will be able to access our application.

Please Note:
We do not adopt our puppies under 6 months to people who work full-time. Part-time or work from home is OK. We do not believe in leaving infants in crates all day.

We also expect that if no one is home all day, arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) "potty break" daily. This can be through a family member, neighbor, or Petsitting service. We know that it is impossible for us humans to "hold it" for 8-10 hours, so we do not want our "shelter kids" to be expected to do so.

We have several Petsitting service companies that we can recommend:
