Please Note: We're extremely happy to report that our Toddy found his new parents yesterday. He now has two Mom's, a 4 legged kitty cat sister who didn't seem thrilled to meet him, but I'm sure they will work that out, a beautiful home in Rehobeth Beach & will be spending his winters in FL! He is our 408th adoption & 3rd to *Go Home 4 The Holidays 2011!*

While all that is wonderful, the most important part is Toddy has what he & all dogs deserve -- a home full of love for the rest of his life.  There is a video below of him & his Mom's & new fenced in back yard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyuXbnTK_uo&feature=colike

Toddy is a 1 1/2 years old purebred standard Yorkie. He is an extremely special little man. He had a very hard start in life but you would never know it from his sweet & gentle disposition. He came to us from our favorite shelter in WV, Wetzel. Be sure to watch several of his videos below which includes when he was flown into New Castle DE by Kay the Pilot.

He was caught in a Steel Trap in WV. The trapper came along & found Toddy in his trap so he just took him out & laid him aside & walked away. He came back a week later to check his traps again & poor Toddy was still there. He was so badly injured that he could not even crawl away. Can you imagine? He laid for week with no food, water or pain medication with a crushed leg & front paw.

That is when the trapper took him to the shelter ...  not a Vet, a shelter! Thankfully he took him to Rosy's shelter at Wetzel which is why he is alive now. By this time his leg was full of gangrene & Rosy said he smelled of death -- YET when he first met her he gave her grateful kisses!

Rosy took him immediately to Parkersburg Vet Hospital under the care of Dr. Shockey who saved his life. There is a picture of Toddy when he first arrived at Wetzel below. Of course, Dr Shockey had to amputate his back leg & the toes on his front paw. He was in such bad shape he had to stay in the hospital for over two months & ran up Vet bills over $2,500. Thanks to generous donors we were able to have a fundraiser to pay off those medical bills in WV.

When it was time to release him from the hospital, we were so lucky to find a wonderful pilot named Kay who flew Toddy into the New Castle Airport. He was still in pain & we didn't want him to endure a long transport. There is also a picture of Toddy & his pilot Kay below.

Then he still needed extensive medical care here in DE to help his front paw to heal. There is a picture of what his poor paw looked like below. Again, it took months to heal & grow back a layer of skin. Toddy still has additonal medical bills here in DE in the amount of $250.  Receipts will be provided.

Toddy loves to go for a walk (well, he actually hops) around the block so he can smell everything. He get so excited when he sees the leash. Since he is only 1 1/2 years old with a long life ahead of him, we will only adopt him to someone who is young enough & active enough that he'll have someone to grow old with and who will take him on walks regularly for the rest of his life. Walks brings pure joy to him.  He is very playful & adores toys & bones -- he can & does chew on Nylabones all day and all night.
