UPDATE from Dixie's foster Mom:
My little Dixie will be staying with our family forever. She is just starting to smile and have fun then she sees or hears kids and it sets her back.
She used to be a normal girl but when she was in the shelter in WV, they had a state fair nearby and the "darling" children came by and threw firecrackers at all the dogs. All of them were terribly upset, it almost caused sweet Dixie to lose her mind. I just don't feel that she'll ever feel safe around other people and since I so love to see the fear leave her eyes, looks like she would be better off with me.

My poor sweet and gentle Dixie. She has been so beaten by humans that she just slinks off sometimes. She is so afraid that someone will hit her again.

She is a very special girl and she is trusting me more and more. I get kisses, wiggle butt, and for a few moments her eyes look happy then they look sad again.

She will stay with me and learn to feel safe. I would only consider adopting her to someone who has had experience with dogs who have had this level of abuse. I do not for a second believe that she would ever bite a human, I think she is the kind of dog who would allow herself to be killed before she would harm us. If anyone feels they could offer her the peace she deserves please apply for Dixie.

Look at those lonely eyes! This little one wants and needs a family of her own. A family who will give her the love she has missed out on all her life.

Dixie's a petite (only about 40 pounds) Boxer mix with a great disposition. She's alert, friendly, and playful. Poor Dixie has been in a wonderful shelter called Wetzel in West Virginia for almost one year. That proves what a special, special girl she is!

We have decided to get her up here with us so we can find her a family who will love her forever. She is a little shy of strangers but once you befriend her (which doesn't take long) she gives you her complete trust. Dixie will make a VERY loyal pet. She desperately wants a family of her own to love and we want to help her earn that. I am sure she would like to be an only child and eat up all the love, but she also does well with other dogs. Take a look in those lonely doggy eyes.

We will be accepting application on Dixie but she will be fostered for
two weeks just to help her get used to living in a home. As with all L&F Dogs, she is spayed, microchipped, up to date with all vaccines, Heartworm & Lyme tested and on Heartgard & Frontline Plus. She will be housebroken and crated trained. She will be introduced to cats and children and we will note those things when we get to know
her better.
