UPDATE: Jasper is our little JRT MIX who we have decided can only be adopted into a home with an electric fence. We recommend the company - http://www.Petstop.com/
Like a true JRT (even though he looks like a Doxie mix he has the heart and soul of a JRT) he is a hunter and just goes insane trying to catch squirrels. Since he is so tiny - under 15 pounds - he can dig, squeeze out of any standard fence. We will only adopt Jasper to an experienced JRT family. No others need apply.
UPDATE: - Jasper is doing wonderful here. He has become best friends with my pitbull Sandy. They do EVERYTHING together. Where one is the other is right behind. They sleep together and rough house -- they even share their treats.
He is the comic relief here, making everyone laugh and driving my old dog
crazy. She can not keep up with him, by the time that she has done one lap
in the yard, he has done two. Jasper loves being outside. His mission is to
rid the earth of squirrels. He chases and chases them and he even thinks he
can climb a tree to get to them. He is a fantastic dog! He can not wait for Shi'Ann to get her pins out so he can play with her. He is constantly
sticking his nose in her crate and whining at her.
PLEASE NOTE: He looks like a Doxie, but his primary breed is Jack Russell. He is a very busy boy so our experience is that we will ONLY be able to adopt him to people who already has had Jack's in their life. It is a special breed and the energy level is not for the average family.
He has the heart of a lion in that tiny body. He has taken toys away from dogs who weigh 50 pounds --- and when they get mad at him, and they do, he is fearless! He plays tug of war with the big dogs like Lizzy, Dodger, Roggie and does get swung around but he comes back for more!!
UPDATE from Jasper's Foster Mom:
Jasper is my little ray of sunshine in my house. He loves to be with me all the time. Currently he is sleeping under my desk in the cat bed. Yes, the cat bed. I don't think the cat Halloween minds as they have become buddies. Jasper may have a little cat in him too. He is in my plants and climbing up on the window sill to just look outside, just like a cat. He
also loves to chase the leaves blowing around in the yard, pouncing on them when they land.
When they say Mr. Personality -- that's Jasper! He loves his squeaky toys, his favorite being a five foot
snake that he drags around and tries to catch the other end. The other thing that he loves is his chewies.
I am constantly finding them hidden all over the house. Recently I found them in a plant the I was watering. Goofball.
Sandy, the pitt bull adores him. They snuggle close on the couch. When I come home she is at the door looking for Jasper to be let out. Then they run and play, until Sandy is too pooped out to play any more.
He is doing a great job letting me know when he has to go out side. He goes right to the back door and
stands up on his hind leg, head thrown back, and whines. He has gotten the name Spider Monkey from Jared for that antic.
Jasper is possibly one of the best little dogs that I have met. I am not a little dog person, but he has come into my home and shown me what a wonderful pet that he will make for someone.
UPDATE: We should have named this one Mr. Personality! Jasper at 15 whole pounds --- is running the show around here. I caught him running down the hallway with a roll of toilet paper streaming behind him. He was SO happy!!
He makes us all laugh with his antics and he is driving ALL the dogs crazy because he just wants to play and play and play.

UPDATE from Aunt Joyce who took Jasper for a weekend Play-Date:
Jasper likes cats and rides well in a car. The cat thing was quite funny at my house. The cat is bigger then him!
He just played with him and sniffed him. Not a cat killer. It probably helps that my cat has grown up around dogs. He rides well, I did a test with him in the car on the way to your house. I took him around the block just to see if he would stay in the back seat, which he did. All he wanted to do was look out the window (he stood up and had his paws on the back window looking out) he then proceeded to fall asleep. On a side note, my guys missed him. They went all over the house looking for him when I came back with out him. He also found a favorite place to sleep at my house, besides my bed under my end tables (they have a fabric covering) with his little head sticking out. I need to get some pictures next time to have you be able to post.
UPDATE: Jasper is a darling little guy but I have found that he is probably mixed with Jack Russell. What that means is he can jump 4 foot straight up and acts like he has had too many expresso's!! I can tell he is going to be a great little companion. He follows me every where with his tail wagging like crazy and seems to be saying "What are you doing? Why you doing that? Can I come? What are you doing now?" Jasper is just like a 4 year old with a million questions!
He is very intelligent and really seems to be thinking. He is very interested in life around him.
He came to us by way of VA. He was part of another horror story created by a "hoarder." Several of our dogs who came in from VA have been rescued from this situation. They were living outside with no cover and in several inches of slimy mud pit. Picture enclosed.

We also expect that if no one is home all day, arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) "potty break" daily. This can be through a family member, neighbor, or Petsitting service. We know that it is impossible for us humans to "hold it" for 8-10 hours, so we do not want our "shelter kids" to be expected to do so.
We have several Petsitting service companies that we can recommend:
Good Dog Animal Care -

We abide by the Humane Association's recommendation. For ANY DOG adoption to have a relatively good chance of success, we believe a child should be 8 years old & up. We only adopt what we call our "BONA-FIDE Kid Lovers to families with children." Many dogs do not want to live with children. You should only adopt a dog who LOVES kids to be sure you are able to make a lifetime commitment to a dog.
Any dog/pup adopted from us must have a fenced in property either Physical or Electric Fence. The fence must be installed before we will proceed with processing an adoption application. If you need a fence for your dog, but are not permitted to have a physical fence, or chose not to, please visit our friends at Pet Stop. Mention that you saw them at our website.
