UPDATE from Charles foster parents:

Poor Charles,
We thought we had found the perfect family for him. A man with experience training K-9 dogs, two children he adored, and two parents with different work schedules so that he was only alone for 1-2 hours a day. Then the working hours shifted and suddenly he’s alone for 10-12 hours a day, and he’s not taking it well. No young dog as social as he is with humans would be happy being alone that long.

We love Charles - he’s the one foster I had the hardest time giving up, so we're more than happy to be getting him back, but so sad for him that we have yet to find his forever home.

Charles is an irresistibly adorable, very handsome (1) year old lab/shepherd mix. Charles LOVES children, is good with cats, and enjoys playing with other dogs. Charles is a real DAWG dog - a big sweet lovable goof who wants to climb into your lap and lick your face from ear to ear with big wet slobbery kisses. He is extremely loving and loyal and is always at our feet or by our sides.

With experienced dog owners to provide leadership and room to run and play, Charles is a model citizen. Charles is strong willed but is very eager to please, and JUST LOVES being trained. He was smart enough to learn the invisible fence within days, and can sit, stay, come, give paw, and lay on command. At a simple hand command he would sit and wait quietly at the kitchen door while I fed the other dogs first, or jump into his crate when I went to work.

However, even though he doesn't really mean to, because of his size and energy level, Charles can seem intimidating to other dogs. I wouldn't say he’s a true alpha, but a home with a submissive male or females would be preferred, or with someone very, very confident about introducing him to their own alpha male.

PLEASE NOTE: Because of his past experiences, this time we will only adopt Charles to a family who has a good sized fenced in yard, wood or invisible, where he can run. He needs to be somewhere where he won't be alone or crated for more than about 5-6 hours a day, and with a family that has experience with dogs and can give him the consistent training he craves.

If you would like to fill out an application, you must first register on the website and await an e-mailed passcode. Once you have this info, you will be able to access our application.

PLEASE NOTE: Any dog/pup adopted from us must have a fenced in property either physical or Invisible Fence IF there are children in the home.

We do not place puppies in homes where they will be left alone all day. Part-time is ok. Puppies, like babies, need lots of attention, socialization and cuddles. We do not feel that it is humane to leave them in a crate for 8-10 hours at a time. .

If you are applying for an adult dog, we do expect that if no one is home all day, arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) "potty break" daily, whether it is through a family member, neighbor or petsitting service. We know that it is impossible for us humans to "hold it" for 8-10 hours, so we do not want our "shelter kids" to be expected to do so.

We have several petsitting service companies that we can recommend:

www.homesweethomepetsit.org/ in PA & DE

www.delawarepooperscoopers.com in PA, NJ, & DE

http://www.tlcpetsitting.net/ in MD

We also have a wonderful all day Doggy Day Care service:
Fuzzy Butts Doggy Day Care in Chadds Ford, PA
www.fuzzybuttsPA.com
(I have visited this facility and it is wonderful and reasonable
