It took a little time but we found the PERFECT family for our sweet, dear Eddie! We know he deserves the kind of people who will love him forever and we know that will happen. We are very happy for him!
UPDATE from Eddie's Foster Mom: He is much better with the cats. They come up to him and they sniff each other and his tail is wagging the whole time. He is a very quick learner. He picks up routines easily. He is also very patient. The first couple days after his surgery I kept the e-collar on him the majority of the time. I did take it off of him so that he could eat and when we went outside. When we came back in he knew it meant the collar would go back on. As soon as I picked it up he just stood there for me to put it back on him. Most dogs would make you chase them around the room.
Help us find Eddie a home! A wonderful good Samaritan saved him from what surely would have been a horrible death, and is working with us to find him a forever home!
This is "Eddie". I found him walking among the traffic on Airport Rd. I saw him try to cross the traffic but since there were cars going both directions he went over to the shoulder and began walking along the shoulder. I pulled off the road and got out and waited for him to walk to me. I already had my two labs in the back of my suv. I think that helped with getting "Eddie" into the car. I took him home and put up some signs in the area. The next morning I called the SPCA to report that I found him. His owners called before me to report he was lost and were told by the SPCA to come in and fill out a report. They never called back or went in to find him. I also put a found ad in the paper and never heard from anyone. I have had him now for almost two weeks.
Although he is a young chocolate lab, he is pretty calm. He does get excited when someone comes over but doesn't jump all over anyone. He is very sweet and affectionate. He loves to cuddle up on the couch or bed with you. The first couple of days he was here he followed me everywhere from room to room. He really loves to be with people. I also think that it would be great for him to have a doggie companion. He gets along great with my two girls (one lab mix and the other a chocolate lab also). I don't think he has been around cats before because he is afraid of mine. It's kind of funny actually to see a big doggie afraid of a little kitty. He loves to go for rides, walks and play outside. I don't think his owners played with him much though because he will go get a toy but then lay down with it and try to eat it. He needs someone he can play with and give him the attention he deserves.
He enjoys the company of children and doesn't mind being hugged and petted by them one bit. Eddie really is just a wonderful companion and will be a perfect addition to your family!
He has been to have his nails trimmed and has had a couple of baths (with ear cleaning) and was a perfect gentleman through all procedures. What a boy!
He is scheduled to be neutered this week and will be up-to-date on all vaccines.
UPDATE: We had Eddie to the vet yesterday and we found out he has Lyme disease. That is why this rescue group tests for tick-borne diseases. To many people do not and their dog can get very sick "if" they have Lyme and they don't know it.
Eddie will need a few months of antibiotics. He has no symptoms and is completely healthy but by keeping him on antibiotics and testing his urine as we did, which was perfect, he will be just fine. By taking an aggressive stand against Lyme now, we'll be able to be sure he stays healthy for the rest of
his life.
Being forewarned about Lyme is being armed against it. Everyone should
keep every pet on Preventic collars and Frontline Plus year round to protect their dogs from Lyme. You don't have to go into the woods to get Lyme anymore.
The vaccine is no longer 100% effective.
All L&F dogs/pups are crate & potty trained, temperament tested, have been chosen for sweet & gentle dispositions,
have lived in foster homes with families, and have had the following:
Microchipping
Tested for Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia
First month supply of HeartGuard & Frontline Plus
Rabies, Distemper, Parvo vaccines.
Intra Trac ll Kennel Cough
Two De-Worming
Spay/Neuter certificate, where applicable.
No dog 6 months and up will ever leave L&F Dog Rescue without being spayed/neutered. Spay/Neuter is MANDATORY.
