UPDATE: We just got word that Ellen is offically adopted. She is pictured here with who was her foster sister but now Kira is her real sister since she has thankfully been adopted by her foster family Krista & Cliff. Ellen had been abused, even more then we expected so her trust level was down but Krista and Cliff loved her until she could feel safe and loved by humans. She is a very lucky puppy girl and while we are sorry to lose such a wonderful foster home --
Ellen has her forever home and that is the most important thing we do. We have placed her with people she already loves and who loves her! Thank you Krista and Cliff!

Dear Aunt Marleen

Wanted to give you am update on Ellen. She has come so far since the last time we wrote. She has earned the right to be out of her cage all the time now. She sleeps on her bed in our room at night, although she rather sleep on ours, and is in the family room with her foster sister during the day and doing wonderfully. She doesn't chew on anything but her toys and waits until she is let out to potty.

We have also been socializing her with neighbors and family. There is the most adorable 4 month old puppy that lives behind us that she loves to play with. She is learning from Kira how to greet guests and will now let them pet her! We are ecstatic with her progress. She is just such a very loving, beautiful, loyal companion. She is also being trained on the electric fence and having no problems learning it. She is very smart! She needs a wonderful family who is looking for a life long companion.

Update: I am enclosing these pictures to show Ellen with her foster Daddy Cliff and her foster sister Kira. We especially love the one shot of her and Kira where it looks like they are smiling!

Cliff and his finance' Krista adopted the other pretty girl in this picture from us named Kira. She was one terrified 6 month old pup who was going to be put down at the shelter because she would not come out and greet people. She hid in and under her dog house.

I took her home with me and with some extra care she came around. We are watching the same miracle with Ellen. She is coming along but still has a long way to go when it comes to trusting strangers. She loves her foster parents and they are helping her day by day to learn to trust humans --- even if some of them have been so terrible to her in the past that she is still afraid to this day.

We will need a family who has the patience and has experience to help
Ellen to become the little social butterfly that Kira has become. It can be done, it just takes extra time. Helping a dog like this is most very rewarding. I know, I saved one like this myself, and believe me, no one loves me more then she does --- NO ONE!

This is our newest baby Ellen. She is almost 1 year old and very sweet but very, very shy. She has been abused so we will only be able to adopt her into a family who is very experienced with this type of situation. She is not a fear biter, but for her comfort level, we need to place her with people who are extra kind and gentle. She loves other dogs and even though she is young, she has an old soul. She is not a high energy labby girl. She actually prefers to just rest on the sofa and keep her foster parents & foster sister Kira company.

UPDATE from Ellen:
Dear Aunt Marleen,
I have been at my foster home for 2 weeks now and am making great progress. I have learned to go potty outside and although I am still a pup am learning the things I can and can't chew on.

My Foster parents are trying to crate train me, but to be honest I don't like it. I would much rather be left to sleep on the couch, but they are the boss and I have to do what they say.

I am still very nervous around new people and new things. I am very loyal to my foster parents and never let them out of my sight, but I am not very sure around people I don't know.

Aunt Marleen please find me a family who wants a great companion and will help me learn to trust. I want a family who will want me around so I
can be by there side with whatever they do. A family that likes to give and receive a lot of love and attention.

Thank you for all that you have done.
Love,
Ellen

All L&F dogs/pups are crate & potty trained, temperament tested, have been chosen for sweet & gentle dispositions, have lived in foster homes with families, and have had the following:

SPAYED/NEUTERED

Microchipping

Tested for Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia

On HeartGuard & Frontline Plus

Rabies, Distemper, Parvo vaccines.

Intra Trac ll Kennel Cough

Two De-Worming

No dog 6 months and up will ever leave L&F Dog Rescue without being spayed/neutered. Spay/Neuter is MANDATORY.

PLEASE NOTE: We do not place puppies in homes where no one will be home all day. Puppies, like babies, need lots of attention, socialization and cuddles. We do not feel that it is humane to leave them in a crate for 8-10 hour alone.

If you are applying for an adult dog, we do expect that if no one is home all day, arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) "potty break" daily, whether it is through a family member, neighbor or petsitting service. We know that it is impossible for us humans to "hold it" for 8-10 hours, so we do not want our "shelter kids" to be expected to do so.

We have several petsitting service companies that we can recommend:

www.homesweethomepetsit.org/ in PA & DE

www.delawarepooperscoopers.com in PA, NJ, & DE

http://www.tlcpetsitting.net/ in MD

We also have a wonderful all day Doggy Day Care service:
Fuzzy Butts Doggy Day Care in Chadds Ford, PA
www.fuzzybuttsPA.com
(I have visited this facility and it is wonderful and reasonable)
