This sweet & gentle creature is going home tonight. We picked her new Mommy and we know her brother Howie who happened to come from the same exact shelter. We are so happy for Sky and her new parents and that Howie will have a buddy to talk things over with. Everyone needs a buddy!

UPDATE from Sky's foster Mom:
I love all my foster kids but Sky's is definitely one of my dearest favorites. Shhh! Don't want the other to hear that!

She is putting weight on daily and is filling out beautifully. Before I could
put my fingers into her ribs. She was groomed (which she loved) by our wonderful Mobile Groomer Crystal (see link at our website) and now she is just stunning. Her coat is gleaming and she no longer looks like a Georgetown DE chained up backyard dog, which is what she was.

Her family, I use that term loosely, kept her outside her whole life and then
moved away and abandoned her --- chained up. Thankfully a kind person came along at took her to the SPCA which is where I found her.

This 1 year old pup kissed me for 2 1/2 hours in the back of the truck after she was rescued from the SPCA. My goodness, she is such a wonderful girl. Every day she is as happy as child on Christmas morning with all her toys! You can tell she never had a toy in her life but she has made up for that. She constantly has something in her mouth with is her proudest possession at the moment.

She has not chewed one thing, she just carries everything around in her mouth. I have put her down as a retriever mix because that might also be what is motivating her to "retrieve" everything she can.

Now she thinks "everything" is a toy to put in her mouth and I found her with a steak knife (pointy side out) in her mouth walking around proudly that she had taken out of the dishwasher. Now that was scary! She does have to be watched like a 2 year old child!!

Actually that is what I tell people who adopt our "shelter kids." I need to find people who will love and spoil and PROTECT them --- as if they were a 2 year old child ---- for the rest of their lives! Are you that kind of person? If so, here is our process for adoption:

Thank you for your interest in our "shelter kids." If you would like to fill out an application, you must first register on the website and await an e-mailed passcode. Once you have this info, you will be able to access our application.

PLEASE NOTE: We do not place puppies in homes where they will be left alone all day. Part-time is ok. Puppies, like babies, need lots of attention, socialization and cuddles. We do not feel that it is humane to leave them in a crate for 8-10 hours at a time. .

If you are applying for an adult dog, we do expect that if no one is home all day, arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) "potty break" daily, whether it is through a family member, neighbor or petsitting service. We know that it is impossible for us humans to "hold it" for 8-10 hours, so we do not want our "shelter kids" to be expected to do so.

UPDATE from Sky's foster Mom:
KID & TOY LOVER!! This is one special little girl. We just had her spayed and she only weighs 45 pounds, she SHOULD weigh 65 pounds. To think that human beings ?? left her in the backyard and could not even feed this poor thing. I could just scream, well actually I do sometimes. Anyway, she is a darling dog who just 1/2 hour ago discovered her first toy. She looked like a child does when they still believe in Santa on Christmas morning. I am so grateful I was standing near by and saw her sweet face
and happy stance with her new treasure.
If anyone wants to have a dog who will love you maybe more then any human being has, she is the girl for you. She will devote her whole being to the person who finally shows her love and kindness.

We were able to get this dear young pup Skylar out of the shelter! Now she just needs a wonderful, loving home to call her own. I drove home with her in the back of the truck and she curled up in my lap and kissed me for 2 1/2 hours! How a dog with this level of affectionate could have been left tied up outside all her life is beyond me. I'll never understand WHY anyone would get a dog and leave it TIED up outside. What would the point of that be?

Skylar is an incredibly sweet girl. It is hard to believe but this girl
was not only left outside her whole life but then her "owners" moved away and abandoned her. Neighbors brought her into the SPCA. They said that she is good with kids. That is no surprise because Skylar is very sweet and affectionate. She is a real gem. She loves to get a bath and loves walks. She is pretty easy to please. Just let her be with you and she will be happy.
