UPDATE from Big Al's foster Mom:
Hi, wanted to tell you how Big Al is doing. What a sweetie!! All of my neighbors like him a lot. I have been touring the neighborhood and let everyone meet him. We been walking for exercise as Big Al needs to lose weight. He very good on his leash. He getting a cup of dry mixed with some canned food twice a day, plus some doggie cookies and a chewie. He really like car rides. I opened the door and he was right in the front seat ready to go.

The only one who's nose is out of joint, is my 9 year old cat, and that
because he can't get away with anything, because of Al's size. Al
doesn't bother with him or Teddy Bear. He also very good with my 15 year cocker. No problems at eating time. I am enjoying him. His only problem so far is passing gas, which I think is from the can food. Otherwise, I am enjoy him a lot. Thanks for letting me foster him.
Barbara

We were able to get Alize' out of the shelter and in to a foster home. Now we need to get this big Teddy Bear a home he can call his own forever!

UPDATE from Al's new foster Mom:
Hi Marleen,
Just wanted to give you an update. Al is a dream. What a great ole boy. He and Audie get along really well. Audie keeps kissing him because he is so grateful to have a buddy his size.
Al lets him until he decides that is enough and then gives Audie a quick, mellow bark to tell him that is all. Then they lay side by side - guarding the front door. :-) He really is the best guy. He has known us for one day, has been through a horrible ordeal and is just as nice and gentle and mellow as can be. All he wants to do is sprawl flat and relax. When he gets up, it is typically to come and give someone a kiss as if he is saying "Thank you." I feel like he is going to make someone a very happy dog owner. He will always show you how much he appreciates you. :-) Ann

We've been told by the shelter staff that he is just an AWESOME couch potato who is just great with kids, cats, and other dogs. He walks wonderfully on a leash and just loves everyone and everything. His family had to give him up because of a family emergency.

PLEASE NOTE: We do not place puppies in homes where they will be left alone all day. Part-time is ok. Puppies, like babies, need lots of attention, socialization and cuddles. We do not feel that it is humane to leave them in a crate for 8-10 hours at a time. .

If you are applying for an adult dog, we do expect that if no one is home all day, arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) "potty break" daily, whether it is through a family member, neighbor or petsitting service. We know that it is impossible for us humans to "hold it" for 8-10 hours, so we do not want our "shelter kids" to be expected to do so.

We have several petsitting service companies that we can recommend:

www.homesweethomepetsit.org/ in PA & DE

www.delawarepooperscoopers.com in PA, NJ, & DE

http://www.tlcpetsitting.net/ in MD

We also have a wonderful all day Doggy Day Care service:
Fuzzy Butts Doggy Day Care in Chadds Ford, PA
www.fuzzybuttsPA.com
(I have visited this facility and it is wonderful and reasonable)
