UPDATE: We have a wonderful couple that is interested in our Jake. They adopted from us and have followed Jake's story for the last year or so.

The way we do it here is our foster parents get to chose where their "shelter kids" go so we won't know
for sure until a home visit is completed
with Jake's foster Mom and potential new parents. We always let our foster parents and of course, our dogs, to pick their family.

PLEASE NOTE: Applicant[s] MUST have experience with abused animals.

My name is Meghan I am Jake's new foster mom, Jake came to stay with me approximately 4 weeks ago and we are having a great time.

Our special boy is doing very well, he is adapting to lifestyle at my house with my FOUR dogs 2 cats and a parrot. He is so beautiful with his light brown eyes, my husband and I joke that he is part deer.

He is so gentle and so sweet, just looking to you for love and attention. He has obviously been so mistreated his level of fear still is so high, it breaks my heart. He so wants to let down his guard and be a part of things but he struggles so much with trusting that he wont be hurt. He loves other dogs, he runs and plays with my chocolate lab Tasha (also a dog rescued through Lost and Found) see picture below. It is so nice to see him act like a carefree dog, he is still trying to understand that life can be fun. Jake is starting to understand the concept of toys he has picked up a toy twice at my house, and for Jake this is a huge stride. With the right family Jake will flourish, he has it in him!! Jake NEEDS consistency and a lot of love and patience. Jake is a fantastic dogs, he just needs the right family to help him realize this!!!!

He's made great progress but needs someone who has had experience working with dogs who have been abused. It just take love and patience to gain his full trust, but once you've gained it, he'll smother you with affection! Jake should be with a family who has had experience with an abused dog and realizes the joy of watching an abused dog become a "normal" dog. It takes alot of love, patience and time. This won't happen in a day or overnight. It is a wonderful gift to help an abused dog become the dog they were always meant to be.

Jake is a GSD/Yellow Lab mix and is approximately 2 years old. He is shown here with his foster Mom at an outside adoption event. Everyone was taking a break. This shows the love and devotion he is capable of. We all love our Jake but he needs his very own family --- they all do.

He is a kind and gentle pup, but he is extremely shy and timid. He will need to be placed with people who will be kind, gentle and patient with him. He needs someone special who can help him learn to trust. He's progressing well with our family. He will come up and lie his head in our laps and is very generous with his kisses! He'll lie on the floor with our kids and watch tv. He craves human contact.

He's getting along very well with our all his foster buddies. He's quite playful with them. He is beautiful when he runs. My daughter takes him for walks every night and certainly gets a workout. Also, he loves water! He made the decision on his first day with us that it's much quicker to go straight across our pool than it was to go around the pool. He's very trusting of children and just loves to play with them.

He's slowly gaining much-needed weight. He lines up to eat together with the other dogs and they go back and forth between each others' bowls. We're still trying to add even more meat to his bones (he loves oatmeal). He LOVES treats and know exactly where they are kept. He'll call you to come and give him one.

He was brought in to the SPCA as a stray. He appears to be about a year and a half old. If you talk sweet Jake will come up to you and kiss you. He enjoys having you pet him and I know this dear pup will be a wonderful companion pet. He was on the road a long time before animal control gratefully captured him from starving to death as a stray. He deserves a loving family since he certainly did not get one the first time!

We have had him neutered and has given all his shots and tests and will be waiting patiently for the family who wants to give him all the love he has missed so far in life. He has a LOT of love to give.

Please Note:
We do not adopt our puppies under 6 months to people who work full-time. Part-time or work from home is OK. We do not believe in leaving infants in crates all day.

We also expect that if no one is home all day, arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) "potty break" daily. This can be through a family member, neighbor, or Petsitting service. We know that it is impossible for us humans to "hold it" for 8-10 hours, so we do not want our "shelter kids" to be expected to do so.

We have several Petsitting service companies that we can recommend:
