UPDATE from Dee's foster parents:
Darling Deirdre is a delight. She’s been at several events now and likes every dog and every adult and child she’s met. She avoids cats – I think she had a close encounter with one once and is a little scared of them. She’s completely housetrained and crate trained, will sit on command (for a treat at least), comes when we call, and is basically trained to the invisible fence. After a vigorous day of playing with the dogs, she’ll curl up at our feet, or preferably by our sides or in our laps. She takes every opportunity to come up to be petted and to give us a good face licking - ears are her favorite. She is definitely a border collie though - she could get bored or restless if not given enough to do and she can run fast, jump high, and dig deep, so she needs a well fenced yard and plenty of exercise and toys.

PLEASE NOTE: Please read our adoption policies before applying for a puppy or dog.

UPDATE from Dee's Foster Mom:
Deirdre is such a sweetheart. She’s extremely loving and, like most border collies, seems to learn fast. She got over her spay and adapted to her new foster home immediately, romping and playing with her new dog buddies and climbing onto us to give us kisses and ask for petting. There have been no accidents since she got here, and she goes into her crate willingly, at least as long as we throw in a treat first. She comes when we call her (she answers to Dee) and is working on sit and lay. She loves toys and empties the toy box each day, trying out as many as she can. Because of the rain, we haven’t had much time to train her to the invisible fence yet, but our other border collie mixes learned in just days and I’m sure she’ll be no exception. Dee is definitely a border collie – energetic and playful, and very, very, very interested in our pygmy goats. She keeps trying to sneak in to their pen and herd them!

Look at the beauty! Deidre came to us with high praises from Rosy at the shelter in Wetzel County, WV; Rosy said she is such a good girl, and now we know that Rosy was right again!

What a lovely, elegant beauty this young pup is! She is so sweet and gentle of spirit. She is alert, very friendly, graceful, very nice young female. Deidre is submissive and just looks into your eyes and asks
"What do you want me to do? Just ask and I will do ANYTHING for you!"

She is getting along wonderfully with all the dogs here and taking care of the three puppies. She is only about a year old but still has puppy ways herself. We introduced her to our 10 year old neighbor girl who is the designated "kid tester" for all L&F Dogs and she just went right up to her and gave her a kiss --- a very gentle and sweet kiss.

So, if you've had experience with this breed please consider giving her the love and attention she deserves & I know she will give you all her love!

Update from Baby's Foster Mom:
Deidre went on a play date with Amanda, Nicholette and Baby where they were all able to romp and play in a big fenced yard - what a wonderful experience for them all! Deidre romped and explored, played with the other dogs then settled down calmly - she looked so regal and content lying there in the grass!
PLEASE NOTE: We will only adopt this breed to experienced border collie people.

If you would like to fill out an application, you must first register on the website and await an e-mailed passcode. Once you have this info, you will be able to access our application.

All L&F dogs/pups are crate & potty trained, temperament tested, have been chosen for sweet & gentle dispositions, have lived in foster homes with families, and have had the following:

SPAYED/NEUTERED

Microchipping

Tested for Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia

On HeartGuard & Frontline Plus

Rabies, Distemper, Parvo vaccines.

Intra Trac ll Kennel Cough

Two De-Worming

PLEASE NOTE: We do not place puppies in homes where they will be left alone all day. Part-time is ok. Puppies, like babies, need lots of attention, socialization and cuddles. We do not feel that it is humane to leave them in a crate for 8-10 hours at a time. .

If you are applying for an adult dog, we do expect that if no one is home all day, arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) "potty break" daily, whether it is through a family member, neighbor or petsitting service. We know that it is impossible for us humans to "hold it" for 8-10 hours, so we do not want our "shelter kids" to be expected to do so.

We have several petsitting service companies that we can recommend:

www.homesweethomepetsit.org/ in PA & DE

www.delawarepooperscoopers.com in PA, NJ, & DE

http://www.tlcpetsitting.net/ in MD

We also have a wonderful all day Doggy Day Care service:
Fuzzy Butts Doggy Day Care in Chadds Ford, PA
www.fuzzybuttsPA.com
(I have visited this facility and it is wonderful and reasonable)
