UPDATE from Raja's foster Mom: Raja met many people today at the Mingle and everyone admired her beauty and saw how sweet & loving she is, but one family REALLY saw her beauty. One family may have had the impact the Akita has had in my life. They saw her regal beauty, and peaceful soul even though her life has been turned upside down by being dumped at a shelter and then finding herself here with me. I do think she understood how much I love and admire the Akita and I was able to hug and kiss her in the same way I did my dear beloved Yushi who I just lost July 6th. Raja is so much like my baby boy. She is tall like he was and it has been so bittersweet to have this stunning young woman here in my home. I know she will give every ounce of love she has to her new family. She would protect them with her life if necessary. That is who an Akita is.

I will be at the Mingle with the Mutts ... even though I am NOT a mutt!

This BEAUTFUL 2 year old female pedigreed Akita (for all the good it did her!) was sitting at the Georgetown SPCA looking so sad. Her family had dumped her there because she just had puppies. The puppies were not with her. I'm sure they will also end up in the same shelter when they get tired of them. I guess they were mad at Raja because as I've heard them say "She got pregnant AGAIN!"

She is a stunning, tall, true Japanese Akita. She is underweight at 75 pounds but she should be at least 85 pounds. As you can see in the picture, all her ribs are showing.

She is a soft, submissive and gentle, loving dog who also LOVES LOVES LOVES people and kids. I took her next door to meet the neighbor's kids and she kissed each and every one of them --- and then went back and kissed them all again.

She is getting along with most of the dogs here but really seems to prefer males to females. That would have to be taken into consideration with her adoption.

We are having her spayed on 09-28-05 and she will be ready to start her new life with people who will love and cherish her. I know she will cherish you and your children. That is what a true Akita is like in their heart. This has been my experience with this breed, they are remarkable creatures and I have always felt honored to have this a regal Akita in my life for the last 16 years.

PLEASE NOTE: We do not place puppies in homes where they will be left alone all day. Part-time is ok. Puppies, like babies, need lots of attention, socialization and cuddles. We do not feel that it is humane to leave them in a crate for 8-10 hours at a time. .

If you are applying for an adult dog, we do expect that if no one is home all day, arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) "potty break" daily, whether it is through a family member, neighbor or petsitting service. We know that it is impossible for us humans to "hold it" for 8-10 hours, so we do not want our "shelter kids" to be expected to do so.

We have several petsitting service companies that we can recommend:

www.homesweethomepetsit.org/ in PA & DE

www.delawarepooperscoopers.com in PA, NJ, & DE

http://www.tlcpetsitting.net/ in MD

We also have a wonderful all day Doggy Day Care service:
Fuzzy Butts Doggy Day Care in Chadds Ford, PA
www.fuzzybuttsPA.com
(I have visited this facility and it is wonderful and reasonable)
