(1) If you do not have the time to personally raise a puppy, please do not apply. We only adopt puppies & dogs to people who as adults ... have had PRIOR personal puppy & experience as a pet owner. We believe like children, pups need to be "raised" not left in a crate alone all day. We do not place puppies under 6 months in homes where they will be left alone all day. Part-time or work from home employment is acceptable. Puppies 6-12 months require (2) potty breaks daily.
(2) An installed fenced yard is required before adoption - either a physical, or underground. Depending on the dog, an upgrade to the fence may be required before adoption. PetStop is the ONLY company accepted by Lost and Found Dog Rescue. We do not accept any other brand due to their lack of reliability. If you have any other system you will not be accepted unless you are willing to upgrade. Safety of our rescued dogs is our highest priority. Petstop has an excellent system, they install quickly and they provide training to both you and your dog on the system. They also upgrade other systems to to work with theirs. www.petstop.com
There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this POLICY - NO fence - NO Dog.
(3) We do not adopt to people who have children under 8 years old. We abide by the Humane Association's recommendation on children & dogs/pups. Although, they actually recommend the minimum age of the youngest child, for ANY DOG adoption to have a relatively good chance of success, to be at least 7 years old, we limit this policy to 8 years old. Applications may be denied based on the age or number of children. If you have any children below the age of 13, the dog must LOVE kids, so make sure you read the dog’s profile carefully to be sure it is what we deem a "Bona-Fide Kid Lover!" before applying.
(4) Applicants must own their own home. Proof of ownership may be required. Based on our extensive experience in dog rescue, we do not adopt to people in active military. They are often not homeowners (mandatory) due to war time deployment, they often are not able to keep their dogs.
(5) Applicants must be at least 25 years of age. Applicants of 55 are required to have a co-applicant willing to commit to care for the life of the dog if they are unable to.
(7) All dogs must be adopted as house pets, not as outdoor, hunting, guard, or working dogs.
(8) All dogs must be kept on a leash except in a fenced in yard or fenced in secure location. This is for the safety of the dog as well as to comply with laws against unrestrained dogs.
(9) If you are applying for an adult dog, we do expect that if no one is home all day (8 hours), arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) "potty break" daily. We have several resources listed on our site to assist you with this. We will accept a trained petsitter to stop in daily for puppies over 6 months old. We have a few companies that we can refer for Petsitting services.
(10) We do not ship animals. We do adopt out of state, usually PA, NJ, MD with prior experience at raising a dog/pup, excellent vet & personal references, but the distance must be within 3 hour driving distance from the 19720 zip code, since home visits are required.
